Quote from: m in sc on April 05, 2024, 04:22:54 PMit is absolutely delicious. Only thing IMHO it needs a is a set of astralite wheels and then: perfection. (my .02)
Gold Astralite wheels would be amazing.

Is the tank that ate up, up top?
It's tape from paint.  Not sure why they didn't clean it up before the pic, though

Quote from: 2 Smoker on March 25, 2024, 07:53:13 AMI am going to make the plunge, Dts points location are not easy access to gap and set without a metor. where did you purchase your VAP from.
RE-MX. Type DT250 in the search bar and the Vape listing will show up.  I'll be buying one for a DT250 engine I have, as well.

Quote from: 2 Smoker on March 24, 2024, 12:35:28 PMnot sure about the exhaust pipe and have never seen one in that design before, maybe custom fabbed and if not I would think that they would have been popular and seen on bikes more often. Cool looking design for the application. How is the Vape working out for you, I am wanting to purchase one for my DT 175.
I fired it up for the first time today. I like the Vape a lot.  I put one on my RD, as well.  It's a super easy and instant 12v conversion and it smooths the lights when running without a battery. For years, the CR125 CDI ignition was the swap, but those are mostly unobtainium anymore.

Turning Wrenches / Elsinore snail pipe ID?

I'm building a 1975 Honda MR175 Elsinore of which I am the third owner.  I'm friends with the second owner who bought it from the son of the first owner.  The son estimates that his dad bought the pipe for the bike in 1976 or within the first two years of owning it. The pipe gives it incredible bottom end and turns it into a wheelie machine.  I just did a 050 bore, and I may go to a 30 or 32mm Mikuni, so we'll see how it's different. The son didn't have any information on the manufacturer, so I'm just throwing it out there to see if anyone else in here has seen one or might know who made it.  Eagle, or double eagle, Maverick names were thrown out there, but those seem like Harley names.

Quote from: EE on February 10, 2024, 06:25:41 PMThere are not a ton of Two Stroke tuners out there anymore lol Ed's a good one.
I am lucky enough to live near the shop.  A visit to pick up a part or service and you're walking away with an hours worth of knowledge and effort.  He's a gem, and a total straight shooter. You have to be prepared to be put in your place if you don't have it right. LOL

I have both a DT250 and the MR175 Elsinore.  Big fan of both engines and bikes.  Really can't go wrong with either.  But, if we're adding the DT360 to the mix, then I am all in on a 73-75.

It can preserve wood and it also makes it water resistant and bug resistant.  You can coat fencing with it.  Acts just like creosote.

Quote from: IR8D8R on December 13, 2023, 03:03:13 PMBack when I worked in a muffler shop a long time ago. I made myself dimpling tools using several different sized ball bearings. I welded the balls to solid Plymouth 383 pushrods with rubber fuel line over the rods for handles. Hold by the handle and smack with a hammer. Dimples look factory pressed. Ball bearings don't leave scratches like hammer blows. Heating cherry red before dimpling is a good idea, especially if the spot is visible. It makes the dimple more sharp and shapely and is less likely to dent the tubing. They are useful for a few things.

This makes sense.  Not sure I was getting it before.

Quote from: irk_miller on November 18, 2023, 09:35:47 PMWhy are you guys running a heavy, semi-floating 4 pot caliper on an RD? A stock RD is 100 to 150lbs lighter with 25% of the torque and horsepower as an R1. A 2 pot floating Nissin from an SV650 with the same rotors is borderline too much brake and they're easier to adapt. Even if you're running chambers and tuned to 50-60 hp, I don't see it. It may even be less safe.
Elaborate on your SV setup, with detail if possible.

I think I have a FZR setup, but don't know. Gonna need help identifying components.
But open to swapping out for other low buck  options

Thanks
I may have mispoke and said Nissin, but they are actually Tokico.  This is a pic with Honda forks that I originally ran on my RD.  The hub is also from a 500cc and above 70s Honda, which is the same rotor pattern as XS650.  Initially, I had it set up with dual disc, but that was way too much brake and unnecessary weight (trying to keep the bike under 270 lbs), so I removed the right side brake.

Here it is with the right side brake still on.  If you closely in the pic, it's a really simple piece of flat stock (and spacers) to make the mount for that front end.

I now have a TL1000r front end on the RD, so here is the mount for that setup:

Mark the circle around the spring stem and shape it with the ball on a ball peen hammer. Doesn't look like it needs a crazy amount of shaping, so work hardening won't be much of an issue.  You have to hit it harder than mild steel, but you can still focus on being accurate more than hard.  I doubt that inexpensive of chambers are super thick gauge stainless.

I totally missed the boat on these.  Will there be another chance at some point?

I have a lifted AWD Astro converted to 4wd with the 4L60E.  They have good upgrades for that trans, plus a corvette servo and it's pretty much good for life.
