im wondering whether a hard solder run in there would hold it

npw were getting somewhere!!

Yeah, i know.

i was wondering if anyone had tried "roughing up" the crank, or drilling for a pin etc.
i was even thinking of applying some water locally and rusting it up a little!!

m in sc,

i was thinking of using that as a last resort, problem is that they list an "oil resistant" variety and it is hugely expensive and makes me think that the 640 would not stand up to oil.

Turning Wrenches / bearing race rotation
Hi folks,

could i please have a consensus of opinion on stopping the inner race of a crank bearing from rotating on the shaft. the new bearing is reasonable fit but there are signs of rotation on the crankshaft (polishing of the surface) where the bearing sits.

any ideas that dont include buying another crankshaft would be great!

cheers

what a shame you had to drill the lock, i thought that the whole yoke would have lifted up enough at the rear to allow the lock to disengage, wrong again!

socal250,

that to me looks spot on angle wise, i measured 15mm center to center of the bolts. its a small allen key, a 5mm hole would give you wiggle room, but you could start smaller and see if you are on or not. in my estimation you should miss any internals of the fuel cap.

no need to change the lock if you get one of these!!!;-

let me know how it goes!

Yup,  just checked on one of  mine. 45 degrees in and forward of the allen screw that is at about 4 or 5 oclock drill a 5mm hole 15mm away from said screw centre. that is, a hole thru the opening part of the fuel cap. the offending screw will be there (hopefully!).

socal250,

guaging where that screw is in relation to the visible ones, i bet you could drill a hole just big enough to get an allen key thru there and have at it.

not much to lose!

working from memory of other similar yamaha strokers that have a very similar fuel cap, there is ONE small allen bolt under the locked part of the fuel cap! it screws into the dropped section of the opening near where the breather pipe exits.

i drilled the lock off of mine and bought a replica (very good one) from china on ebay, but of course you end up with non matching keys.

hope that helps

it looks in great condition, shame about ypvs. there is a lot missing that needs to be got to convert it back. the wiring loom has the connectors to just plug and play, but you need the power valve servo motor, cables and pulley for the valve, plus the power valve control box. over here (ireland) they are hard to get now and expect 3 or 4 hundred euros for the lot, but totally worth it for the difference it makes.

hi,

if it has a working power valve system fitted, they absolutely fly.
the oldest model (2rk/2rh) will make 29hp on a good day and is very light indeed.
mine never ceases to surprise me.
