+1 on chain alignment, i actually offset the whole engine by about 1/2" on mine which made it much easier than going down the spacer route, and a steel straight edge from sprocket to sprocket to align parallel.

Teazer, my take on the FZRversusRD engine thing is this, they always get compared to the FZR engine, whereas to compare the FZR chassis to the RD chassis is a better comparison, the FZR SOOOO out performs the rd in all respects and mine also came out a whopping 25kg lighter than an LC from which the engine was derived, it was the RD that i always wanted, not an FZR that i didnt.

dont know why i sold it now!

DatonaCafe,

done it, here is a build vid which may help maybe, bottom end is rd250, because solid mounts let you stress the engine, as the fzr was.
there are other vids that link from this one.

cheers and good luck, i had few skills but it was not the end of the world to do and i had great fun.. plus, it handled like an absolute dream, over here they call the small fzrs "chicken chasers"!

folks,

mailed my power valve controller off to this guy today, he has a great reputation, and also modifies the controller to be programmable with various settings, worth checking maybe if anyone has a power valve bike. i was half considering using his services a while ago, and am now convinced that i need them!

Turning Wrenches / Oh Dear!!
July 11, 2022, 02:35:42 PM
folks,

hoping someone may have some ideas.
out riding my lovely tzr125 when, one by one, components started burning out.
first the koso digital speedo/rev counter, then the digital temp. gauge. (separate component). then the power valve controller.
the bike still runs, so got home, but anything wired to the battery burned. i have tested them separately with a power supply and they are dead. does anyone think that the regulator/rectifier faulted and overcharged? the battery after all this only read 10.5 volts and now wont hold charge, so i may have cooked that.

any ideas anyone (please!)
cheers

Turning Wrenches / small end noise
April 14, 2022, 10:41:36 AM
Dudes,

what does small end noise sound like please? i have a marble in a tin type rattle ONLY on tickover, nothing at any revs or on the over-run. the bore is fresh and measureably tight so i am wondering.

many thanks

hi again,

made progress today on the "other one" this one is the same chassis with a dt250 bottom end and a yz250f barrel grafted onto it, carb is a lovely 34mm flatslide with a clear floatbowl and a dialable power jet that i hope i can reach while riding the bike flat out!!

85RZwade,

Actually, i have another one of these on the go with a dt250 engine in it, however i am currently locked in to fitting a YZ250 cylinder onto the DT gearbox (which is a bit fiddly but very doable). ill post when i have some more progress.

Haus of Projects / tdr/dt project finished

folks,
couple of pics of a recently finished project. Chassis is a TDR125 with a DT400 engine shoehorned in there. the chassis, wheels, brakes are far superior to the original DT versions, and the dt400 engine is one of my favourite 2strokes. it runs sweet to 7k rpm, it would pull a stump out. the carb is an OKO 34mm flat slide power jet, foam air filter, the exhaust is an adaptation of the original TDR.

folks,
my daughter and myself are recently diagnosed on the autism spectrum she is 16. so to make the most of it as we share an interest in motorcycle building we decided to do a joint project, what a great bonding experience. she built the purple one, she built the engine on her own and did all of the spray job. honda NSR75/80s were very popular in europe and were modified for racing a lot. if anyone is interested in these engines (very similar to cr80) below is a good resource for tuning them, which i did use. The purple bike has a standard engine that is derestricted fully (they were restricted over here) and the repsol one has a malossi big bore kit, large carb and reeds.

Haus of Projects / Re: Yamaha SRX/RD Hybrid

hi,
looking at the very nice way that you fabricated the engine mounts it would be a shame to rip them apart to move the engine over 10mm. but would it be possible to machine 10mm off of the engine mounts on the engine and then slide the engine over on the bolts and use spacers in the other side?
i have built half a dozen hybrids and have always found that it is best to get the engine to line up rather than start spacing everything else. even if it means offsetting the engine by a small amount.
