Turning Wrenches / Re: wheel re-building
October 15, 2020, 04:17:28 PM
I just built a new wire wheel for my RD400.  It wasn't that hard to do once I figured it out.  +1 on getting the right tool for the nipples and using the motorcycle as the "stand".  I'm a tool junkie, so I bought a stand, spoke tool and spoke torque wrench.

I gave up on the OEM condenser and bought individual ones from Autozone.  This resolved my spark problem on multiple RD400s I've own.

It was a great time. I always like hanging out with Chuck. I always learn something. We also rode to Columbus GA to see "rustyrd" and his 350 (Very cool and great guy) and hand some BBQ.
I have no fabricator skills and am no mechanic. Chuck transformed this bike for me like I never could have.
Glad I met him.

You guys were about 30 minutes from me.  I'm in Opelika, AL right now during the Covid-19 pandemic where I've been working remotely on our tree farm since March.

I use Oury grips whenever possible.  They are softer than other grips and larger diameter on the outside, std 7/8" diameter on the inside.

General Chatter / Re: Odd Email

I sent Sakis a message via Facebook when I received that email letting know his email may have been hacked.  He's aware.

Cuisinart with built in grinder for me that grinds the beans I get from Independence Coffee Company in Texas.  I like flavored coffees and since finding this vanilla bean coffee that doesn't clog up the coffee maker, we've stuck with it for many years now.  I have a french press I used to take on camp-outs when I was a Scoutmaster.  Maybe I'll switch back to it one day, who knows.

What forks did you use on this project?

Somehow I missed that.  Thanks.

Can any one of you provide me the numbers stamped into the wheel bearings for the following models?

RD350 - front wheel.  P/Ns 93306-30317-00 and 93306-30302-00
RD400 - rear wheel.  P/N 93306-30317-00

I don't have any bearings to look at right now and searching online for clear enough pictures has been pretty fruitless.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Rob

Turning Wrenches / Re: RD350 spoke torque spec
July 09, 2020, 12:39:42 PM
Thanks.  Various motocross and motorcycle wheel websites are saying to torque between 30 and 48 in-lbs.  My RD350 manual is in storage, so I was hoping there would be info in the manual, but maybe not.

I know there's a spec for torquing the spokes, I'm just trying to find out what it is. I would think it would be in the manual, but I don't have one for an RD350 handy (mine's buried in storage).

What is the torque spec for RD350 spoked wheel spokes?

General Chatter / Re: VP Fuels...

I run C12 in my racing RD400 (and my VW Super Beetle from time to time).  I guess I'm lucky, I have a VP gas station a couple of miles from me that stocks what I want, and our local farm/coop is a VP dealer and always has C12 in stock.  For a stock RD, I run premium and keep the carbs drained.

I have all my cars/RV with Progressive.  Had to switch to GEICO for the motorcycles, as Progressive increased my insurance by 50% in one year.  No wrecks, no tickets.  Go figure.
