Thanks, guys.  While I have the thing open I suppose I'll just swap out the basket and save myself the hassle later on.  Like most of the people on here, i'm at the "I've already sunk $X into the bike - what's another $100?" point.

Any particular billet basket you recommend (76 RD400, fyi)?  The Hinson comes up a lot, but don't need something that high end.

Yamaha workshop manual says 'check circumferential play - if excess play, replace'.  But it doesn't define what is 'excessive'.
