Turning Wrenches / 73 RD350 shock mounts
November 08, 2019, 01:33:55 PM
what dia are the shock mounts?
Mine measure 14mm top and bottom, but I have been told they are 10mm and the old bushings are probably stuck to the frame. Does not look like they are to me.

Haus of Projects / ITS ALIVE!!!!
September 29, 2019, 10:53:17 PM
After sitting in boxes for 34 years she is finally alive again.
73 RD350 that was crashed at 360 miles and written off by insurance, sold to a shop, repaired and sold to a guy who raced it in the 70'snd early 80's.
Was then sold to somebody with plans of restoring it cause he sandblasted the hell out of everything with really abrasive media, then it just sat. Probably cause he could not get it registered.
Sold again to a guy with a seized 74 looking for a motor. Well with 30 year old seals and gummed up carbs he never got it running well.
I bought  both bikes as he would not sell the parts bike separately. Its taken me a while to actually get working on her, biut Ive nbeen collecting parts for a while.
Turns out she is super low hours. Still had factory pistons in with no blow by.

I installed a vape ignition rebuilt the motor with Pro X pistons.
The frame had been cut here and there as it was a race bike and the harness was garbage.
Still working on the modified DG pipes ( for now, plan on making my own later) but I could not resist firing her up.
Took a while to get the petcock rebuilt as I had a bit of a spaz attack and put it back together with the wave spring behind the little handle. Took me a while to figure out why it was pissing fuel everywhere.

Four kicks and she roared into very noisy life. All lights and indicators working. Even the kill switch works. That really impressed me as I hate wiring .

Still gotta finish the exhausts, tidy up the angry tarantula of a wiring harness, little bitta paint and switch out the tires that are almost as old as me, figure out the cable rear brake mounts and a few little things  and she will be ready to rip again

Turning Wrenches / Powerdynamo wiring question
September 24, 2019, 01:47:35 AM
Finally got my bike in a box together enough to start wiring
Where do I connect the brown wire that was going from the regulator to the rear stop lamp switch. Im assuming this wire only has power when the bike is running. Do I connect it back to terminal 6 on the regulator on the attached diagram.

Turning Wrenches / Banshee motor in a 73 Rd350
August 29, 2019, 09:47:26 PM
I have an opportunity to get a good deal on a Banshee 421, 4mil motor for a good price. I know the motor mounts are not the same, but has anybody put a banshee motor in an aircooled frame and can give me an idea of how much the mounts would have to be modified to make it work

Turning Wrenches / Kmh speedo

I have been looking for a RD350 speedo in kilometers / hour, but all I am finding are the Rajdoot from India. Are these going to work on my 74?

Turning Wrenches / steering lock removal
July 04, 2019, 12:30:42 PM
I have looked up instructions for removing the steering lock on a 73 Rd350 and they all say that it should slide right out withe the key inserted and pin lined up.
Well, after 40 plus years of being in there she is not willing to come out. Any suggestions? The lock turns and slides in and out a bit, but wont always engage the locked position.

Turning Wrenches / RD400 carbs for a 350
May 15, 2019, 01:31:24 AM
Are there any issues running Rd499 VM28 carbs on a 350 better or worse than stock?
What do you do with the pipes that went from the float bowl to the airbox when running pods?

If I want to check my RD350 timing with a light do need to set to 1.8mm advanced with a dial gauge and make a new mark above the viewing window? my timing light does not have any advance / retard setting

Turning Wrenches / Stinger lengths
April 28, 2019, 01:13:02 AM
Can somebody explain how the stinger lengths work in GP pipes (both silencers on same side)
The outer pipe has a much shorter stinger than the inside pipe.
I can find a lot of info on stinger diameter and length, but not on using two different lengths together
