General Chatter / Deals gap bans vintage bikes?

I just saw this article.  Looks like 2 strokes are safe for now.  Anyone know anything about this?

Edit, looks like it might be April fools according to the link.

Quote from: IR8D8R on March 26, 2024, 01:56:22 PMThat is really gorgeous! Have you run it? It's almost too pretty to get dirty.

There is a link above with it running.

Quote from: m in sc on March 26, 2024, 02:26:22 PMwhats the little dovetail inset in the base for?

Good eye.  The stand doubles as a static display and also for running.  There it a piece recessed in the bottom that comes out from static and gets stood upright so it can get clamped in a vise to run.  The dovetail piece conceals the hex wrench and 2 longer screws to change over.  There is 2 spring loaded ball detents that keep it held in place.

Quote from: 85RZwade on March 25, 2024, 03:53:20 PMThat's impressive; are you a machinist by trade?

Sorta, kinda, but not really. I have done some machining for employers but it was never my dedicated job.  I do have a mill and lathe in my garage.

Quote from: chuck norris on March 24, 2024, 08:23:37 PMThat's cool, Did you build that from scratch?

I downloaded some plans but yes, made from scratch except for the screws although I did make the  brass hex nuts.

Thanks, while frustrating at times, it was a fun little project.

Same here, I had the cases on my RD done and they looked amazing when I got them back.

When I built the set of chambers last year for the RD I couldn't seem to find them either.

Anyone ride a DT125?  I saw one pop up on marketplace and it is a sweet looking bike.  I don't think I want to go that small in displacement, it is also a little far away.  If it was close I would probably entertain it.

Pic of the bike.

Quote from: John Ritter on January 18, 2024, 12:18:11 PMassuming you are doing mostly trail riding.

It will be a short ride to work bike with some light offroad/trails thrown in.

Some years back I was pretty into "dual-sport" riding which was mostly just riding to trails.  Last bike I had for that was a KTM 200xcw.  I am not expecting much out of a vintage enduro as far as off-roading.

Thanks for the replies.  Let's see what pops up.  From what I see Yamaha and Kawasaki seem to be the most popular.

I would be fine with a a DT250 but I would want an earlier version, something looks off to me on the later mono-shock bikes.

I think a vintage enduro type bike may be in my future, what should I be looking for?  Short lists of wants,
- 2 stroke
- 250cc or bigger
- some sort of parts availability( at very least for an engine rebuild)
- factory street legal/title would be a plus as I will want a tag for it.
- something from the 1970s
