The Yamaha spec on that bolt is 18 ft lbs, I run them at 20, no issues. I realize its on the upper end but these rotors can tend to slip if the taper's not engaged. The bolt I include in the kit will take the 18-20ft lbs (I've tested them), won't snap and does a great job of holding the rotor.

Turning Wrenches / Jetting Baseline VM32's

Anyone have a good baseline jetting for VM32's on a 350?

I've started including an extra washer in addition to the thick one for the bolt depth, had one come in with a Vito's crank that had that issue. and ps the vito's RD cranks use the larger small end bearing, like the RZ.

There is no Canadian 1979 RD400E, that doesn't exist.

The Canadian bikes are 1979 RD400F and 1980 RD400G, they have the same frame as the US Daytona Special and Euro E. model.

The US 1979 F specific DG pipes do not fit on the Canadian F and G because the external measurements of the 2R9 cylinders are the same as the US 1A1 and the Canadian F and G do not have the emissions junk.

That being said, you can fit regular US DG pipes with tabs.

Thanks for the info, very helpful.

John,
DG did make a special set for the U.S. '79 RD400F.
They were marked as 4F.
Our U.S. '78 and earlier back to '76 are very close to the Euro 2R9 and STD DG 4  heads will work on any RD other than the 'F' model in '79.
Chuck

sorry I should have said "pipes", but thanks for the input Chuck!

long shot but would anyone know if DG's would fit a Canadian 79 E model? It looks like our 78 but the barrels are 2R9.

Given the fact that there appears to be mud? packed on the backside of the cylinder, is the guy offroading with the bike? Lots of gravel roads?

Has he sent you any manifolds back? No he's in Bali

What do the insides look like? haven't seen them

Is he steam cleaning the bike, using a pressure washer at a carwash perhaps? something is going on, they don't look quite right to me, heat or fuel or something got to them.

I know guys in the sled world that run some alternative fuels, maybe he is using a special blend thats killing them?

The 520 set up will save about 3lbs of unsprung weight. We do them with the rear aluminum sprocket hard annodized, lasts much longer. Also you need to shim the 400's when you go to 520. We have a kit for that as well.

Have a customer running UPP manifolds with the bigger VM's. What do you think is causing this? weight, heat, fuel, overtightened?

I've sold lots of these manifolds and haven't had this come up before.

06/26/2021 Update

As ecommerce (websites & search engines) have evolved over the years so has competition and the ability to find parts, Walmart sells some RD parts now for example but even among established 2 stroke vendors the competition exists and is alive and well. It's much easier to find RD parts then it was just a decade ago. This has been great for the RD community, there's more than ever available for them and the competition helps to keep prices in check.

We've always had a great relationship with the forum and we want that to continue but we have to make some changes to the forum discount. Going forward the minimum order amount for the discount will be $250 per order. And we'll still continue with the flat rate shipping which can be a significant discount with medium and large orders.

This is just a business decision and not meant to reflect on the forum negatively.
