General Chatter / Cleaning up battery acid damage
September 04, 2021, 11:42:55 AM
Hi all,

I'm working on cleaning up some acid-caused corrosion and rust on steel parts and am curious to know how others have approached this problem. Scrape, clean, and paint? POR-15?

Thanks,
Matt

I know who that is supposed to be.. be he really looks like the freaky guy from Escape From New York.

Regular Dyna or similar designs will run backwards.  I know my GT750 version did.

VS system uses dyna or similar pickups but I believe that he has extra magnets in the rotor so that if the thing kicked back, the timing would be so far off, that it cannot run.

Just kick it harder. The GT only did that once but it sure surprised me and took a moment or two for the brain to work out what was going on.

"Just kick it harder" is good advice for all sorts of situations in life. I like it.

Hell of a road trip, Mark. Taking turns driving through the night we could be there in 3 days?

Oh. Oh, wow.

It sticks to the road around the curves, too ... except when you don't want it to.  :metal:

Well, damn. Another wad of cash that turns into a good story (and a running bike).

It'll get you there. Not real fast, but there.

(I have one for commuting and really kind of like it.)

I'd never seen one of these before. Pretty similar to my '82 Kawasaki AR80. It's a fun little thing ...

I did not. I wanted them to look factory. The clear would darken the color. However, clear powder would be good of you wanted to go that route.

They are much easier to clean after the vapor blasting. I can send some pics a little later.

I'd really like to see those pictures whenever you get the chance to take and upload them.

I have an old Chilton manual that covers that year and model, but I don't know if it's specific enough for your needs. Let me know if you'd like me to dig that out and scan a few pages for you.

I hadn't seen this one before a few days ago.

Yep, my measurements show a similar difference. About 6 1/4" center to center, bracket to bracket, making it just a little bit narrower in the 400 frame. Just different enough to not bolt on without some 'help'.

Thanks for giving it a look, guys.

This is MAD sexy. Can't wait to see this in person.
