Ever tried taking these off & putting back on.
Had a hard time with my kickstand spring.

But, Alas, I have the Answer.

I extended the centerstand down to hold up the bike.
I was left looking at an expanded spring.
I went ahead & put 10 - 12 washers in all the openings.

Retracted the centerstand.
The washers kept it expanded.
It came right off with my hand.

I left the washer in for re-install.

Probably can do the same for new spring installs, by bending spring to 180 degrees, and have friend stick the washers in the gaps.  Then turn around & do again.

put spring on hooks then install centerstand and or kickstand. much easier.

but thats pretty clever.

I use pennys, but,  same principle. If you think it is hard on and RD, try it on a CB750 or GoldWing!

That idea is decades old, and still works.  Best to alternate sides though, so the spring stays straight.

When fitting a new spring, put one end in the vice, and bend the spring over and slip a washer or coin in, then bend it the opposite direction and add another coin/washer. Rinse and repeat until it's extended enough to fit.

Another technique is to remove the pivot bolts and let the stand move to release tension.  Assembly is a little harder but with a center stand you can usually get one side bolt it and pull the stand into place to slip the other side bolt in.
