Wanted to know if anyone had any direct experience with Bassini expansion chambers and the pros/cons?  On a separate subject, I have reached out to Gary at Spec II twice, but he is a little difficult to get ahold of and don't want to hold my breath.  A set of these became available and wanted to inquire.  Thanks

Good low end from what I hear - check out the exhaust FAQs.

Personally I think Bassani piper look awful on the bike.

they do work well. worth trying, and wait for gary to get some pipes made if ever.   :twocents:

I spoke to Gary yesterday at length.  He broke his wrist recently and this has slowed him down, is also moving to a new location.  I e-mailed him this AM to put my order in, asking all in price and expected delivery, awaiting his reply.  The Bassini are roughly half the cost of Gary's pipes, most likely will see what his lead time is before doing anything.  There will be a shiny set of Dogsters for sale soon with 200 miles on them, most likely will post on Marketplace once I have replacements in hand.  :guinness:

remember Gary in normal times 2 weeks = 4. how about some new mild steel Lomas pipes? not too far off from specii

I like Gary, if you're in a hurry you might want to try somewhere else.

A couple of quick questions about Gary/ Spec2 pipes:
Are the head pipes tapered or straight?
Are there any major differences between "F1" and "Classics" other than the outside of the silencer? (Separate can vs welded on sleeve)

m in sc

depends on age. all the new ones are tapered, like, in the past 25 yrs +. so there are ones out there w straight pipes. But tend to be old.

I think the f1s are crisper.  but basically the same design.

I was talking to Gary about a set of F1's for a 1975 RD 350 and thought they were being manufactured. Then a 7 months had past with one day being a phone call by him stating a price for the F1's and I figured they were ready to ship but not quite, they were going to be manufactured upon receiving the full purchase payment. Another 4 months and my pipes arrived   excellent quality as always without a disappointment.

Funny thing is during that time I came across a new SPEC II second generation pipes on ebay that I snagged  but I purchased the F1's anyway as they seem harder and harder to get a hold of.

Growing up in Southern California as a young and ageing two stroke enthusiast I have known and purchased from SPEC II for decades and have never been disappointed, he is very professional and a detailed two stroke builder. We are all slowing down and sometimes must be patient, but a can attest that that quality of his work is excellent, he had a guy working with him for like 30 years and he retired and moved back to the Philippines last time I talked with him. I would buy them if you have the patience.

I found a solid set of Bassanis on Marktplace this fall. (What's the chances?) Just got them on this weekend after a little clean up and repacking. We had ran Bassani Torque Pipes way back when on our Enduros, but I had not put a set on an RD before.

They made a very noticeable difference on my stock 350. First, they significantly reduced the 4k to 5k bubbling. Second, the bike hits harder if not just a bit higher in the RPM range, and lastly they raised the top to about 9k.

Overall, I feel fortunate to have stumbled on them. I will take them off and have them coated. After 50 years, it is time. I have even thought about having them chromed, but the head pipes have enough rust and pitting that they may not look good chromed. We'll see.
