None of my shit is even close to ready. Lord willing and the creek don't rise they will be.

Chuck called me yesterday about the gap while he was waiting for the opening of the list. It was a great surprise. Looking forward to it.

Thinking about making my first trip to the Gap.

Any recommendations for nearby campgrounds (that permit RV's) or hotels?

Fontana has a campground/RV Park right under the dam and on one of the most fun approach roads (9.3 miles on 28) to Deal's Gap

Another year that my RD400 will not be ready.  I'd love to come up for a day with my CBR, but life has been crazy and I don't know if it'll happen.

There's a free camping spot that RVs can use down 129 by Tapoco Lodge. Has picnic tables and fire rings. It's right next to the dam outflow. Pretty spot but has mosquitos. I don't know if you need a permit or to notify anyone to use it. I don't think so. A few guys have stayed down there with RVs. There's 3 or 4 spots. Rarely see anyone else over there during our week.

If I recall correctly they will allow you to park an RV at the resort for ~$40 per night as a "camper" with the presumption you'll be sleeping in a tent on the grass. I doubt anyone would check especially if you actually put up a tent. You can't use the electrical outlets they have for the tent camping spots to hook up your RV and parking spots can be scarce. In May the grass is always wet for tent camping so if you decide to really do that bring a good tarp. It also is likely to rain. I've slept in my enclosed trailer with a twin mattress in back a few times. Never had any problems. There are public showers.

I'll be there this year, causing a scene no doubt  :metal:

Thanks for the info, guys.  Again for a first timer, is there a certain day or two I should target?  Not sure I can or want to stay a whole week.

Weekdays are better for riding. Especially on the Dragon. It's best morning and evening off-peak times M-F.

Weekends are overrun with tourists and noisy, but that doesn't affect the roads in the area as much. Mostly just the 11 mile stretch of 129 between Tabcat creek (Chilhowee reservoir) and the NC line which is where the resort is.
Mostly identical guys on identical Harley Glides going up the Dragon to sit in the parking lot, buy Harley and Dragon merch, and ask us to take their pics at the Tree of Shame.
The Fiat club is the only other group event on the calendar that week. Probably newer models. At least they aren't loud.

What are the dates? I went in July and definitely don't want to miss the fun. Love it there.
Bringing some RD friends who haven't been there and some who have.

Crossing fingers, but if I can't make it, I am going to be at Mid-Ohio this year. Told the wife it's a for sure thing. The RD still needs the top end swap, but I don't need two bikes in pieces in the garage. Especially when I work on this crap way too infrequently anymore, it's a recipe for assembly confusion.  :umm:
