Wow. That article brought back some good memories of my 1st pair of Vans.  They were, two toned.  The left and right side were not the same colors.  I remember my father being very unhappy because they were different colors.  I wore them until I couldn't.

They were the greatest at the the time.  If you were into skateboarding or surfing, you had to have a pair.

I had several pairs of 2-tones (toe/heel one color and center body another) and even some checkerboard hi-tops back in the day. I still wear Vans, and have about 6-7 pairs in my closet

I got my first pair in 1979.  Almost the same as these, two tone blue/red.
