What's your favorite lube for the points cam on ignitions without the felt pads for oil?
Every day above ground is a good one.

What about brake pad/caliper pin grease? Hi-temp, but sticky enough? I'm gonna try it unless I can find my can of white lithium grease.

Auto part stores have distributor cam lube in small tubes.

Do you like the Lucas Red and Sticky?

FSM specifies "light weight machine oil" for RD400c. To me, that indicates sewing machine oil or 3in1 oil. I have Singer sewing machine oil that I use.

If you have the oiling felt the thin oil is fine.

Did the factory get rid of the felt pads on the 250?  I didn't see any evidence of there ever having been any on the ignition plate I'm using.  No holes or anything.  Just a bunch of red grease on the cam.
My usual parts store says they'll have to order distributor grease.  Went to the next town over and they didn't have any either.  boo hoo hoo.  I guess all the locals jus' git it off the innerwebs.

Bosch points grease. What I've used on VW points for years.

Which 250? RD250? If yours are missing someone removed them, probably when they replaced points. They were stock on all RD models and predecessor models.

If the kid behind the parts counter doesn't know what points are......   don't be surprised.

keep in mind, an rd points cam spins a LOT faster than a car one. a car one will see maybe 2500 rpm (if you wind up the motor to 5k).  an rd one can see 8-10k. it will sling the grease off.

Greg, there are some NOS Yamaha felts on Ebay but they're not cheap
