Jim, what cans are those on your pipes? I have a set of home rolled chambers that have the same ones.

Dunno?  I was assuming they are Moto Carrera?

Well, that was a helluva lot of fun.

I only made the last 10 minutes of practice on Saturday afternoon.  The bike was running strong, but the brakes were crap.  After the saga of my TDR250 brakes, it was obvious by feel the master was too big for the four piston Brembo caliper we ended up with after the stock caliper and disc of unknown origin failed to play nice together.  We swapped out the Brembo master for the MikesXS one and after bleeding it out, shut down for the night.

Burgers, dogs, a small bonfire in the Weber kettle, a few twelvers of Ranier and lots of new and old friends were the evening activities before camping at the track.

7am wakeup, 8am tech and registration, 9am riders meeting and 9:30-10am practice.  Brake felt MUCH better with the slightly smaller 13mm master.

Travis got the LeMans start Vintage holeshot from 11th on the starting grid out of 18 bikes.  He was in third position coming out of turn one.

Our Vintage class consisted of four bikes:  a clapped out GPZ550 with one very fast pro racer and two fast clubmates of mine, a SR500 with three fast riders without much race experience, an even more clapped out TS250 with one very fast guy and two good riders ... and us on the RD350.  Three old fat dudes.

(The minibike class was a mix of Ohvale 160s, a CR85 on 17's, a few Groms, and a few Kymco K-Pipes.  Modern class was a KLR650(!), Ohvale 190s, a vj21 RGV250, and a couple Ninja 250s)

Anyway, the GPZ550 was pretty fast, and the skilled riders took them to the lead pretty quickly.  We had the SR and TS handled without too much effort.  The GPZ was fast, but was plagued with two or three big crashes that chewed up a bunch of laps and got us out in front.

Right before halftime one of our riders went down on the left side and mangled the shift gear.  We cobbled together a repair out of random spare parts during halftime, and luckily we didn't lose any laps.

At hour five, our fuel tank split a seam and during a rider swap we noticed it dumping fuel on the hot engine.  We pulled the tank and patched it up with JB Quick, but lost about 20 laps in the process.

Final finish was SR500 in first, TS250 in second and us in third.

Total for the day was 6 hours racing, 348 laps, 208.8 miles, 13 gallons of gas and a whole shitload of fun!

Massive credit due to Garrett GRA400c Amner.

No way we could have pulled this off without him.  Garrett helped source parts, skimmed/doweled/o-ringed the head, ported/bored/and modded the cylinders to fit the Vforce reeds, rebuilt and trued the crank, sourced/milled/jetted the carbs, made us a custom throttle cable, milled a custom disc adapter, and a bunch of other random sh!t we needed to get this thing around the racetrack.

Great prices, great communication and lightning fast turnaround!  Thank you Garrett!

Looks like fun! I really need to stop being lazy, prep my old IT175 roadracer with some friends, and run it!

You would have done well!

Small bore class was won by a Kymco K-Pipe

It was gutless and slow as sh!t on the straights, but on sticky roadrace slicks it was fast thru the corners.

We will see, Russ.  It was a ton of fun.

The bike is actually owned and the build was financed by a guy on a rival team.  He gave our team the option of building an RD350 or GPz550.  We chose the RD.  He paid for all the parts and machine work, and we did all the legwork and labor.

A few weeks before race day, he decided to run the GPz as well.

They would have likely won it if they had managed to stay on the track.

retaRD Nathan is just outside Knoxville TN.

Interestingly, he grew up in San Diego with Travis who is on the Kart Track Racer team.

The more you know.
