Although it's a tribute bike, the way I see it, it's an improvement. You get the Daytona body styling and frame without some of the weakenesses of the 2V0 model. :clap:
(And I think it's more '76 than '77 based on the engine and wheels.)

  • Since it's a 1A1 engine (Engine # 1A1-013386) you get the better stronger crank (over the 2V0 unit).
  • It uses the standard 1A1 brake calipers instead of the crappy single-piston 2V0 units.
  • It has the much superior 1A1 VM28SC carbs, as opposed to the totally shitty 2V0 VM28SS carb setup that was unique to the Daytona
  • All the lame 2V0 emissions equipment is not present.
  • You can own a "Daytona" for less money (and most people would never know the difference).
Just need the oil pump and tank reinstalled and you're good to go. :thumbs:

Thanks Russ, I really appreciate the kind words. Your points mimic mine, people can get a little touchy about what it is... but its just another RD  :vroom: 

I never saw the value in tearing it all the way down and making it super nice, I focused on making it as right as I could, without breaking the bank...

I tried pipes and carbs but learned I wasn't a two-stroke tuner after all, so I decided the Yamaha engineers probably knew what they were doing, and I just made a few minor improvements under the guidance of Chuck Q (where is that guy?! I hope he's OK) and its never run better...

I consider it a 'functional restoration'
