Surely there are some Ebay Chinese shocks that bolt on to the RD400 - that are also a decent improvement over old stockers.
Anyone have a good suggestion?

My lower back could stand a little better performance and better handling would be appreciated.

I saw retaRD's LÖLins  in the DG swingarm thread...  The light bulb came on.

I prefer Nöhlins myself

"Who needs suspension" is their motto.

Are these available? Which Chinese shox is suitable? Any links
Thanks

Are you talking about those "air shocks"? They are pretty soft, not stiff shocks. I would invest on some quality ones, not the Ebay chinese ones.
Do not underestimate the power of a two-stroke.

These are/were RFY brand Chinese 100 dollar specials. Not great. I bought them from eBay to get my build finished. I never had any real issues with them but they were way over sprung and stiff. Yes, you can rebuild/respring them. There's a member here that offers that service. I saved up and bought some Hagons. Huge difference.

well, there ARE different rate spings available with the rfys when you buy them.  they arent GREAT as said, but arent bad, either. I have a set on the R5 and on the G3.

the spring rates on both are different. the black and gold ones with the thick springs are way too stiff.  thats for sure.

YSS also makes a decent set of shocks, really good actually.

I have a set of emgo shocks on the T500 that have been surprisingly good. IF you want legit performance though, the hagons are really a great  option for the street, IMHO. if its just a stock replacement level, there's tons of options above.

my suggestion,  a set of progressives from john @ economy.

Does anyone on here actually have Ohlin shocks on there RD? When I was shock shopping I had called Ohlins and they
told me they didn't make shocks for RD's. I have recently came across this pic on the net. What gives...... :umm:

Those might be Öhlins YA-145 S36 models. 320mm length for XJR400s. They offer a bunch of different spring lengths and valving for most of their shocks. Of course none of it is cheap. I'm currently in search of a YA-908 monoshock unit of anyone has one laying around.

I believe the 400 uses a 340mm length shock, the 350's use a 320mm unit.

Those look like Öhlins forks too...💸💸💸

I've got John's progressive 12s. They really tighten up the rear end without being too stiff.

My only comparison is the stock shocks which were pretty cushy from the factory.
