Title: Has anyone used the VHT high heat clear paint?
Post by: Fastash on May 23, 2019, 01:26:15 PM
I'm kinda wanting to leave my new specII pipes in the raw and wondered if anyone has used VHT clear with any success? Thank you in advance. Ashley

Yes it works well.  As with other paints, you want the metal to be clean and oil-free.  When my pipes start rusting, I sand the rusty parts, clean them up and reapply the clear.

Mop&Glo is way easier, doesn't flake or peel, and is easy to add another coat when needed.

I take my pipes off, wipe them clean with denatured alcohol. Then hang them up in the garage. PourMop-N-Glo into a spray bottle and spray until coated. I usually do 3-4 coats. Looks great, smells great.

Spray bottle or rag.  Doesn't really matter how it goes on.

Burns in a nice bronze color.  This is after a few years only one application when the pipes were new.  Reminds me I should pull em off and wipe em down again.

Clear ceramic coating is another option if you want something more permanent. More spendy though.

I just wipe mine down with WD40 couple times a month.  :twocents:

That sounds cool, but I'm not sure I could handle the service intervals on that program.

Always expect the headers to go first, the paint will not hold up under the high heat

I used either VHT or Duplicolor clear on an aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold. Manifold had been bead blasted & cleaned prior to painting. The paint held up well, but began to discolor with age.
