I've rebuilt quite a few pumps. Not too difficult if you're careful and aware of the potential gotchas. The rebuild kit includes the case gasket, pump to engine cover gasket, and seals you'll need.
There's an oil seal on the rear behind the thumb priming wheel (also called the starter wheel),
there's one inside the front half of the body where the plunger shaft runs through to the spring and pulley, and
there's a small oil seal inside the unit in the distributor which seals the plunger in the chamber.

Rebuild kits available here.
Economy Cycle offers a rebuild service if you don't want to do it.
Site member "Arrow" in the UK also offers a pump rebuilding service.

If you decide to tackle it yourself and you've never done it, be careful when removing the internal assembly of plunger/worm gear/washers or you'll be looking for lost tiny springs and worm wheel pins when they shoot out. If you need tips on this I can provide more details.

Yamaha is moving its US HQ from Southern California where it's been located for nearly 50 years, and relocating it to Kennesaw, GA where it has other facilities. As part of the move the company is selling the offices, warehouses and the land it owns at the current site in Cypress, CA.

Pretty sad. I just rode by there on Katella Avenue yesterday. Companies continue to bail out of this state.

Wow, that's amazing. Igor is the man! Congratulations.  He's not too far from me (60ish miles) so I'll keep him in mind if I need his services sometime.
I had a similar outlook on it as Randy. Great to see it fell into the 1%.

In case anyone is interested in his services: PCHDentRepair.com

Thanks for the suggestions. When I have a chance this weekend I'll check the outer face of spacer for flatness and put a little Yamabond on there.

Turning Wrenches / RD400 countershaft leak
February 26, 2026, 07:28:20 PM
A few months ago I replaced the countershaft seal with a new OEM one (93102-35109-00). Noticed the bike was still dripping on the floor and had oil running down the kickstand. :whatever:

Pulled the left engine cover and sprocket and discovered I still have a leak there. The OD of the seal is dry. Looks like it's coming out around the collar, but not sure if it's seeping out of the OD or from the ID and spline area. The collar doesn't appear worn and the inner lip of the seal is in good condition. Anyone have any tips for resolving a leak like this? Hate to throw another $20 seal in there and get the same result.

The other seals on that side that were replaced are all dry (clutch pushrod, shift shaft, neutral switch).

Wasn't this bike posted here before? :umm: I seem to remember seeing it a while back. But who knows I look at a lot of bike ads so it's possible I saw it somewhere else.

And yes, he's high (literally & figuratively) on the price.

Quote from: elliottles1 on February 02, 2026, 03:47:19 AMi heard Peco is off to Aprilia! 2027 is a real shake up.
That would make sense, since his buddy Bezzecchi is there, and in fact just signed a new deal through the 2028 season. Marco had a ceremony where he "married" his motorcycle, which he has given a name.
At the Buriram test Pecco announced that he has decided on Aprilia for next season.

Also at the test things are continuing to look bad for Yamaha this year. After day 1 they're all more than a second off the pace in 17th, 18th, 19th & 21st (out of 22).

Quote from: RDnuTZ on February 21, 2026, 10:36:03 AMFun fact, I visited Vancouver around 1994 and these things were buzzing around everywhere. Long time ago but I seem to remember "RD" on a lot of them and there were even 4 cylinder "RD500" versions but don't remember "RZ" on any of them. Some alternate paint schemes like a really nice blue/yellow. I had previously owned a Canadian imported White/Blue 1981 LC350 and surprisingly saw none of those on my trip.
The only water cooled RD models that Canada got were the 81 & 82 350LC, everything else was designated RZ. The 500 V4 sold in Canada was the RZ500, they did not get the RD500LC which was a Europe/UK version.

Turning Wrenches / Re: rd400 oil pump shimming

Yes the factory spec is 0.20~0.25mm for minimum stroke. That 0.012" would be about 0.30mm.
More stroke = more oil output
