I will be buying an electronic ignition (not sure which one yet)  for the RD350 project,...I will get one that eliminates the need for a battery.
From what I can tell, pretty much most of the components look like they are internal. As far as looks, I would like for it to look as simple and clean as possible.
I have a de-tabbed frame and will run no side covers, I did leave the original coil mounts under the tank. I wondering if there is any components that may need a tab welded on the frame? I think the answer is no but wanted to ask.  I am taking the frame to a shop for some welding and would like to know that I'll be finished (hopefully) with the welding part.  Thanks

The HPI has a small ecu that needs to be mounted away from the coil. The coil mounts perfectly where the old coils mount. Then you've got the reg/rec but that's easy to find.

For a vape you will need to change the stock coil mount to a flat plate, and add brackets for the CDI and voltage reg

either system can have the components tucked under the tank towards the back if need be.  you'll have to make a bracket for the vape coil but no welding is required.  hell, you can do it off a p clamp or 2 on the top tube if need be.  :twocents:

"No welding required" was what I was hoping to hear,...Thanks Guys

I didn't find a easy way on the 350 with Powerdynamo/Vape without welding in a coil bracket...hope someone can add a bolt-on pic to my install post.
Too bad shipping is so high or I would sell you my miller flux core mig for $75.

you can use a 90 degree bracket off the coil mount, or standoffs or as i said, some large p clamps.  I did it on the lc originally, but cant find the pics of how i had it mounted. later when i swapped the frame i welded a proper bracket on.

Well I guess I'm by myself having mounted the vape coil on the frame tucked inside the two plate ears of the neck of the frame. It took a few small holes drilled through the left side and some fun getting the nuts started,  but its mounted up and working fine. The only thing that looks funny is the spark plug wires are aimed at a downward angle. But it tucked inside the tank just fine and works great.

thats how i initially mounted it on the 400 frame. drilled into the tank mounting ear plate and ran a bolt thru.

Nice John.
Do you have a mounted pic?
RD's are a pain with stock throttle cable junctions to clear.
I'll order one the next time too!
