Does anyone know the size of the front brake rotor mount bolts (length and diameter please) for an 84 RZ350 so lazy me won't have to pull one out? If things work out as planned I will be buying some magnetic brake rotor bolts from Koso... Thanks in advance.

Tim, if you cant find one, take one out, measure it, and i'll make you one. I have a stack of rare earth magnets that are great for this.  quick work on the lathe pretty sure its an M8 x 25, but i don't remember if it shouldered or not.

Thanks. I will let you know. Koso says a minimum of 3 with a 6 bolt rotor. Still haven't bought the unit pending funds. Just thinking ahead.

i can make 3. really. 3? I have 3 on my bike but that was to increase accuracy/reaction time. let me know timmy, you have my #

I thought the title of this thread was "RZ Motor Mount Bolts"and I couldn't figure out why in tf would you ever need magnetic motor mount bolts. Must be time for bed around here...

^^^^^ That's funny, I thought the exact same thing the first time I read it too.  ;D

Some KOSO speedometers use pickups that don't require magnets, they sense the proximity of ferromagnetic materials, i.e steel bolts. Maybe an "active" sensor like that could be used on your speedo setup?
Also, on a couple KOSO instruments I have, they supplied some loose magnets with 6 mm diameter. These fit perfectly in the head of an M8 Allen bolt (aka socket head cap screw) I just used some grease as well, to keep water out and avoid corrosion. Only thing to be aware of is that they all need to have the same magnetic orientation. Either all "north out", or all "south out".
If your disc bolts are stainless or titanium, you would need to glue the magnets into the bolts.
So there should be no real reason to use those special bolts.

The one I plan to order is the Rx-2 GP. It comes with the magnets you described. My bike has the factory Allen head bolts for the rotors so hopefully they will work. I just got an email reply back from Koso for a query I sent them regarding disabling the low fuel quantity indicator as the RZ has no fuel gauge. They said just don't hook up the fuel indicator wire and the low fuel light wont illuminate. (I felt kinda dumb but the install instructions I downloaded didn't say that). I plan to hook up the 2 stroke low oil light up to the engine oil light so that won't be a factor. The rest of it looks to be pretty straightforward. The 10MM 1.0 thread water temperature sensor is an up-charge as would be the in-line sensor that goes in a coolant hose. I am going with the one that screws into the head in the factory location. I have a spare albeit slightly mangled stock instrument panel complete that I am going to cut the cannon plugs and wires off of so the install will be completely reversible with no alterations to the factory harness. Now the only obstacle is saving up the $400.

you can use a regular automotive temp sensor int he head.(can on the lc for sure)

rz -may- be different. if its like an m10 vs a 1/8 npt (lc), then there will be a crossover unit. for example, on my concours, a honda civic unit works.  :toot:

It is a 10MM 1.0 thread. They want$12.95 for it so I will likely go with theirs. I was a little surprised that they wouldn't swap out the one included in the accessory bag that comes with the unit for the one the purchaser needs, especially considering the gauge costs $379. But they do offer free shipping on orders over $200 ...

thats cheap. do it once, do it right.  :patriot:
