Installing shaft plugs

Finally able to assemble my bottom end on my rd400. Tried tapping in the transmission shaft plugs and had one mushroom over on me. It might not have been 100% square going in and I did not put lube on it. Is there some trick to this I'm missing? Don't wanna ruin 2 more, they are $15 a piece.

Try a closely matched socket to drive it. Mine actually was not tight, and blew out on me twice until I smeared the OD with Hondabond.
