So my clutch started slipping bad on my 73 rd350, and I did a bunch of research on what people were using. Ended up calling hvc cycle and ordering the EBC kit for the YZ that they sell, and a set of barnett springs. Mine is a 6 plate clutch, and I realized the new steels from the kit weren't thick enough to take up the space, even using the very first thick plate. Called HVC and they said you can double up the last steels to take up room. I really didn't like this, and since my oem steels looked great I just reused them. I also did 3 stock springs and 3 barnett so the clutch pulk wasn't too bad.
On my first ride, the clutch was slipping a bit. I rode it around and let it break in just a bit, and it wouldn't do it again. Now this morning I started up the bike, and whdn I went to take off the clutch slipped hard. Tried again and couldn't replicate.
Is the clutch just breaking in?? Have any of you had this problem?

yeah we had this issue on matts 400. back the adjuster nut at the motor off 1.4 turn, give it a bit more free play, see if that cures it.

also, doubling a steel isn't nec a bad thing, honda did that from the factory on the 1st gen CB750F's(they were riveted together but still).

as long as your stock steels werent like, purple with heat discoloration should be fine. I try to get my old steels media blasted if i reuse them, but it snot 100% nec all the time.

Alright I'll give that a shot. My steels looked super good, no color or anything. I just scuffed them with emery cloth

when we were running his in, everything, and i mean everything brand new, i smoked the clutch 3-4 times (figuratively) before it finally started grabbing when it went into the power & adjusting it. and that's with a 7 disc clutch.
