Loose shifter

Is this what you all recommend for a loose shifter?

Basically put the shifter in a vise and widen the part that clamps together with a hack saw?

I've never had a problem with him. Just tightened my bolt properly. If it works, then try it. Worst thing is that you will need a new shifter.

Yes, I have done the same. I use a very good quality high speed makita die grinder now with a thin cutoff wheel and use a hex head bolt, kinda stupid having to loosen up the pipe for a allen head bolt wrench.
And I stock and use new toe rubbers right from Yamaha..under $7

On a lot of RD with rearsets I re-bush the side shifter hole in the  side cover too as they are all shot nowdays being 40+ years old.

Norbo sells a bush kit for the LC sidecover.  I would assume it fits the aircooled sidecovers as well.

I used my Dremel and it worked brilliantly, took out about 2mm and it tightened right up.

I add a DROP of Loctite 609 stud and bearing mount on loose shifter splines after cleaning well. Use 135266 primer to speed things up and promote adhesion. When it's time to remove heat will be required though but it's a good fix in my experience.
