I've had good luck with Krylon fusion paint in the past.  Black plastic trim on cars and modern dirtbike plastics.

On the dirt bike plastics it even held up decent to branches and whatnot in the woods.  It didn't hold up to high rub areas like where boots/legs rubbed on it.

I just crudely painted a plastic fender for my bike so I dont know how well it would hold up but I just scuffed it up, put glazing putty on some spots, and sprayed it with some old black paint I had, still have some spots to sand.
As far as Krylon goes, I have Krylon's John Deer Yellow on my bike. Had some issues but I think that was just poor prep I just have it cleared with 2k and its holding up decent, really any spot falling apart is my fault.

That's the secret for a really good DIY paintjob, especially on cycle tanks.  It will stand up to gas splashes, unlike standard clear.

I did a repair on an ABS fairing with a Duplicolor base and SprayMax 2K gloss clear - and I was impressed.  The clear needs a good amount to flow, but it did flow nicely and never dulled.

I've also used the SprayMax 2K satin black on a few parts I couldn't powder coat.

I'm laying down the high fill primer now. Took a bit of time to prime, then use glazing putty, prime, putty, over and over. I'm hoping to block it tomorrow or Tuesday, then lay down the black base. Tape, then lay down the red and clear. The weather here has been the pits, so it's slow going. Plus, I'm taking my time with the drying process. Last time i did all pretty fast and i might have not let certain elements dry enough.

What type of primer and paint did you use on it?

I used SEM rattle can primer and spraymax 2k last time. Using the same this time, except this time I'm going to use sealer before paint, not just fill primer. I think that was the issue the first time, no sealer primer.

Looks like that SEM primer is self etching. I would use something else as that last time I painted my bike the paont supplier told me not to use self etching primer with 2K paint as they react to each other.

It took a bit of time, but I finished.  I'll take metal any day. Prepping plastic like this is a pain in the ass. I did everything. Went out the next day after I wet sanded it and it cracked overnight.  Stripped it again, which is a royal pain, and used all Krylon primer, not a mis-mash of different products.  First, adhesion promoter, then primer. Then spot filled areas. And sealed it.  All the primer was gray, but the primer on the tank and fender were black.  Sprayed black, waited 2 days, taped and sprayed red.  Forgot to order clear, whoops. So, I had to scuff it, and I scuffed through a few spots.  More black touch up and clear.  Came out ok after sitting in bathroom with heater for 24 hours.  The Mrs. was not happy. The problem, the red isn't as deep as on the tank because of the gray primer.  Oh well.
I'll take a pic when I put it on this weekend. Time to ride it. Hope to God it fires and runs ok as I didn't pull the carbs.
