bought this today from a friend that bought this new . rode it to high school (dirty) thrn raced it for a few years in Oklahoma.  it sat until about 18? yrs ago until he restored it, and upgraded with a full mzb (vape) and baja designs kit. procured an sc title and got it registered.  i helped w the resto at the time, but he basically paid to get all done, twnk, Buchanan did the wheels,  all the aluminum polished. tm32 upgrade, etc etc.  he finally let it go so i snagged it. it sat basically 16 yrs between his living room and his man cave/barn w heat and ac. pretty stoked. i know very little about these by comparison but its pretty straightforward. here we go... :love eyes:

You scored! Tasteful restomod. Helps you have some history on the bike too. What carb dip are you using?

gunk carb dip.

yeah, im the second owner so its good.

so spent ALL DAY in the garage with it...

I got it somewhat cleaned,  checked,  and fired up today. the carb wasnt that dirty, but i dipped and sprayed it just to be safe.

he was not a tuner, at all. I now know why he never really rode it, or, actually, now i remember. it runs like absolute ass  :dawg: . i think the TM was just slapped on, and its way too rich in the mid range. theres a 389-Q2 (!) jet tube in there, and a 5fp17 (normal) needle. I have a 389-p8 jet tube im going to try, i move the needle from middle to 2, to 1, and it got better each time. but still just pig rich then takes off better wot.

motor is quiet! everything works, except the kill switch. luckily i was able to just rinse out the tank and it seems ok there.

theres a lot of nut and bolt stuff to do but it should be pretty good.

Lookin good. don't know if it would help that tuning much but I think they used to make reed valve conversions for these? maybe even direct bolt on?
