Oil tank sight glass leaking, best method to remove

I noticed that my sight glass is leaking around the rubber seal and will need to replace this assembly this winter.  I did a quick search on 'how to" with no luck but did find some info on Air-cooled RD.  Concerned as all of my tins are now painted and worrying about denting/scratching tank during removal.  I could envision cutting the seal around the sight glass (with exacto knife) and removing plastic lens  from the front,then folding the seal upon itself to remove and pull out.  Was wondering how the general population on this forum performed this task.  Thanks, Brian

If I remember correctly the lens is plastic. So I put a screw in it and it out... possibly in pieces.

Push it into the tank. Then grab it with some needle nose pliers and pull it out at an angle. I had to replace a few and that's what worked for me!  Good luck!!!

A screw does work well, and an Eye Hook is even better since it's easy to grab/pull.  If you aim it right when screwing it in, you can sink it into the hole that's in the metal bracket behind the plastic sight...
