So i was out cruising the web and happened upon a " looking for the best pipes for my RD400" Thread.

Not going to mention any names here, but there is a certain cat out there claiming that his pipes will push 75 hp out of an RD 400 with 34mm carbs and porting, which he stated the porting changes some power output but his pipes make the biggest improvement-bar none.

Have I missed something? :umm:

Im not on here as much as i was in past years do to a shift in hobbies, buildings and having kids, but what the hell.

I know Chuck was making some pretty sick power out of his 400, but I just dont recall exactly how much. And if anybody is going to make big power it would be chuck.

Just the fact that the guy claimed his pipes made up the biggest difference and the porting was minor has me really second guessing things?

Just wanted to check in and see if there is any truth to this.

All the stuff I have been posting is just mostly using Gary Shumake @ Spec2 F1's on his street pipes. More torque than just shear HP and great for the street.
The leading pipe builder for race pipes is Gary Braum at RETRODYNE now in roadrace for our vintage market.
My Harry Barlow RD400 race engine porting and pipes with a set of legal vintage race VM38's made 76HP on the dyno, but no way are streetable... 8000-10,400 RPM band.
Might be able get a slightly wider powerband with some modern Mikuni TM flatslides with power jet nozzles or Lectrons, but not legal for vintage racing rules.
