Hey guys,

Im a little worried i might lose out on the hundreds I spent on renting the cabin in Fontana. I have a feeling that this stupid covid-19 issue is going to mess up my travel plans 7 weeks from now. If I cancel now I can get some of my money back.

Am I being dramatic?  lol  If I do cancel and it turns out travel is ok in 7 weeks then maybe I can still get a place to stay in Fontana.

My other concern is I had a bone marrow transplant 15 years ago because I was diagnosed with Leukemia.. my immune system isnt lousy but it's not 100%. Depending on how much it spreads it might be risky for me to really go anywhere  :bang:

Not sure what to do!

7 weeks is a ways off still.

Call the cabin people and ask about their cancellation policy.

Wait til the deadline and make the decision then.

Basically everything is cancelled here in Portland, Oregon.

If you are immune system compromised, you should probably err on the side of caution, I would think. 🤷🏻‍♂️

And you may have to take an extra 2 weeks off to stay isolated in your home after returning from the US, that is if they actually let you cross the border.
Hard to tell what will be going on in 7 weeks, but Id say cancel as its probably not going to be much better for a while.

id keep it. they are good to deal with, cancelling wont be an issue. ive rented there for close to 20 years on and off.

The situation here in the States is changing daily.  Entire school systems are being closed because of one employee being diagnosed with the virus.  Not just the school where that person worked, the entire system; but that is a sign of our times.  I suggest you do as suggested.  Know what the cancellation policy is and base your decision on that.  There is no way you can tell what will be happening in seven weeks.  I think things may be back to normal in a couple of weeks, but who knows, and there is no sense in risking your health or your money over something you can do nothing about.  There is always next year.

Still no local cases here. Schools are closed anyway. I'm going unless I am sick. The area is probably one of the safer places to be in an epidemic. It's in between the edge of nowhere and the middle of nowhere.

Just need liberal application of antiviral high-proof ethanol sanitizer. ...Fix you right up.

My real concern is cross border travel restrictions and the amount of money I will lose on the cabin I rented if I end up not being able to go. Now they are saying there might be as much as 1000 untested cases here in Ottawa and everyone has been told not to go outside unless it's absolutely necessary. Our prime-minister is nowtalking about possible restrictions on out of country travel. His wife actually has covid-19 because she was in the UK for a speaking engagement.

I'll see how I feel about the sit tomorrow.

I think things are gonna look very different in the next few weeks as things progress.

Border restrictions, especially for vacation travel, are probably not far off and could potentially be in effect for months.

This crap is overblown. However, panic causes stupidity. So, the border closing? Well it might become a restriction, I doubt it will close completely. But again who knows, people in general are dumb as rocks. Jist prepare for it and keep up in what's happening. Might be just fine by April.

Hope it works out for you but understand your situation being out of country. DG is only alittle over 4 hrs away from me so I usually attend annually. We have Canadian friends attend and have found them to be very friendly and fit right in. Hoping it works out for you and would look forward to meeting you.

Agreed... people can be dumb as rocks!

Id still go... just no prolonged hugs and kisses like I usually do when meeting people for the first time  :haw:

From what I am reading and hearing on the news I 'think' the chances are cross border travel has a high chance of being affected in some capacity. I was reading Fontana Village's cancellation policy and I am in the 'between 90 and 30 days' part where I will lose $50. After 30 days I will lose the deposit which was 1 nights amount. So not too bad at all. I'll hold of on cancelling for now and pray I can still travel come May.. I am REALLY looking forward to going and meeting everyone.  :vroom:

I would think that they would be lenient on the cancellation penalty and probably waive it. Most businesses are making exceptions and instituting special policies during this situation.

Here we are now dealing with complete closure of all bars and restaurants and no gatherings of more than 50 people.  It's going to get worse before it gets better. Who know what it will like by May.
