Not too long ago I picked up this RD400. The story is it was dropped in 2000 and parked. I got it from a guy who got it from a guy who got it from the guy who dropped it. The plan for now is to keep everything original and get it back on the road. Figured if I posted here, I might actually get around to getting it done!

Yea, no kidding. That's what got me started. Always too busy with other projects!

Cosmetically, a little crusty, but not too bad at all. Actually came with a box of parts to replace the obvious damage. So I replaced:
All 4 turn signals
Both fork ears
Headlight bucket
Headlight bezel
Tach housing
Foot pegs
Brake pedal
Front fender
Somehow the tank got out unscathed. Seat is at the upholstery shop.

Now digging into other items. Brakes are totally screwed....

Diggin' the groovy colour scheme man....get it on! :)

Check the steering stops on the frame and triple tree also.
if you ever change handle bars, can be a problem hitting the tank if damaged.

I ordered all the needed brake parts today and sent both masters out to be sleeved $$$$$$$

Also got the seat back from upholstery shop:

Fuse box was garbage. Ordered a replacement from economy cycle. Now have spark and dash lights. Ignition switch is iffy. I have a spare but I need to get a key for it. All the other switches are frozen so dealing with that next....

Still waiting on some brake parts.

One of the pilots is frozen in a carb and someone previously mangled it. That will be fun.

Handlebar switches were wrecked. Decided to get some reproduction switches to move things along. $75 for the pair off eBay. Look pretty close. The sticker color/font is off. (I will fix the stock ones eventually). Hopefully these work.

First problem. On the right side the throttle tube was binding. I eventually figured out why. See last pic

Got the master cylinders back today

m in sc

thats neat, where did you get the masters re-sleeved? and how much were they?

RattlecanResto

Apple Hydraulics in NY. $95 ea plus $15 for shipping, so $205 for the pair
