I'm looking to replace the stock regulator/rectifier in my RD350 project with something more modern.  I've replaced stock regulator/rectifiers with something different in the past but with more modern motorcycles.  What is the best route in this case?  I'd like to delete the whole airbox and battery box if possible.  I have a Y-boot with uni-filter and Martek ignition; if that makes a difference.  I know the Martek ignition will still require a battery.  I'm hoping to replace the battery with something smaller and a capacitor if possible.

Any input would be appreciated.

You could always switch over to Rick Motorsport R/R that is available, its a quick plug and play.

There are also other people who have done Mark's modification for the regulator with a Ford regulator. Check out his thread.

As for your ignition, you need to run a different type of ignition to run your RD without a battery (HPI or VAPE). Many of the upgraded systems that uses the stock rotor/generator needs 12v to power the brushes to generate power.

As for the battery, I am currently running a small little alarm battery 12v for my set up. It's simple and great for my use, I believe you can run a smaller amp of the same style battery.

Do not underestimate the power of a two-stroke.
