Hi,
I am planning to buy a TI front axle nut for my XS650 project, and found that the XS nut is M14x1.50.
Now I wonder if the RD axle nut is the same, so I can order 2 at the same time?

And if someone knows the thread diameter and pitch for the RD350 rear wheel axle nut as well, that would be a welcome bonus!

As usual, all these questions pop up when I arrive at work, thousands of km from my garage and bikes....

RD350A/B and RD400C/D (and US-spec E model) front & rear axles are 17mm. I was going to say that the nut should be 17mm like the axle, but I believe it's stepped down so the diamter may be smaller. I would assume the thread pitch would be the same.  I don't have one handy to check.

The XS650 also has a 17 mm axle, so it is likely that the RD has the same nut. Maybe I can look up the part numbers online, and compare.

its a 14mm nut, they swap. i know this because i single point threaded an axle out of TI a few mos ago.

For an RD? The spine frame bike? And 1.50 mm pitch? (Generic M14 coarse thread is 2.0)

1.5, yup. and yup.

I havent finished it yet, but this is it. I chased it with a stock nut, but a i got a TI nut from a forum member last year and plan on using that. this was a pain, manual lathe, but seemed to come out ok.

Issues with work hardening while cutting the thread? HSS or carbide bit? (Got a manual lathe in the garage, you see :) )

no, but i made over 20 very small passes. TIN coated insert, very low rpm (like 200), and a LOT of oil.

Thanks! Excellent info!  If I can get hold of a suitable piece of round stock, I may have a go at machining some TI as well 😊

Found this. Seems kind of expensive, but then I've not priced Ti parts lately ;)

I found these on Ebay, $17.80 for two.

Yes, I do realize they come from China, but at that prize I can afford to bin them if no good.
They take a 21 mm spanner, so is a bit smaller than the OEM steel nut as well. Which makes them even lighter :)

Had to replace mine as well and I got one at True Value Hardware. If you don't have one, then check an ACE Hardware store.
Do not underestimate the power of a two-stroke.
