FB Marketplace: fact or just a pain in the ass that I don't really need?

:rant-1: Is FB marketplace this difficult for everyone? I've been thinking about joining for the purpose of selling to a large audience without making eBay richer, and when Milan asked for help picking up a Suzuki here in Washington it seemed like the time. The seller ghosted our man Milan, apparently because he's too far away, so I allowed myself to be assimilated. Trouble is, I can't access marketplace! I'm given the opportunity to join endless groups, and I can, through a rather clunky process, look up someone such as Ed Toomey Designs and see their, uh, thread? Kinda cool.
Trying to access marketplace, and using the help center, dumps me into a loop of non-specific tips and links that all lead to "Marketplace isn't available to you now", so I Googled it. Found sites that say marketplace isn't accessible until 11-12 MONTHS after joining. That can't be right! (?)
What am I doing wrong...besides joining FB?   :'(

New accounts should have access to marketplace unless you are using a really old apple device to access facebook. Check your age and country are correct as it is only available to over 18 and specific countries. Try logging in on a laptop and see if it is there

I find marketplace is more like craigslist with local deals only. If you want to reach a bigger audience then bike specific groups are the way to go. Lots and lots of scammers out there though

So, the hand-crank on my iPad could be the problem. I didn't think to try a different device   :bang:

I seem to be able to access everything on FB Marketplace from all over the world with my laptop. I never really tried to access it until after I was a member for a while.  BUT, I don't trust anything. It seems FB monitors everything you are searching and then here comes all ads from scammers trying to sell you things. Maybe there is a way to stop that with adjusting preferences? Selling things may be ok, but a lot of people want to buy that are all talk and no action. I have sold things locally on there. As for groups, wow, you will find out there are disrespectful, mean, know it all's out there. "I'm right, you're wrong". The replies that poor people get to their honest questions is just nuts. Much of the mechanical advice is just way off and wrong. The hunting and fishing groups I'm in attack people with insults.

I work next to a fellow who has told me much the same; it seems like a toxic social environment. He has stopped using all but the messaging function and marketplace, largely because he's one of the mean people you mention and has been temporarily banned several times.

Facebook is such a shithole. The toxicity is off the charts.

Marketplace can be pretty handy though, it definitely has replaced Craigslist in many ways.

well heres my take.

I dont use marketplace that much, if at all , its fun to look though and I have bought a few things off of it.

as far as FB is concerned, its like any other tech, you can control how it works for you. blocking, ignoring, joining groups, limiting what you allow of your data to be uploaded etc...etc. MY 82 year old father navigates it just fine, and avoids politics and stuff like that for obvious reasons.. as should IMHO everyone else as anything on there, from anyone, is just OPINION.

The real benefit for me are the MC groups, the acrd club page is really good for the most part. and i use ot to keep track of events suck as the vintage dragraces, deals gap meet, road racing, the meltdown, dgr, and local bike nights.

There are absolutely no real good selling or buying portals.
Marketplace,  Feebay or Craigslist all have problems.
I refuse to sell on Feebay any longer though I did for years.. too controlling though I still buy off of it..
Marketplace was pretty good for while but has become over run with scammers. You really have to do your due diligence same with Craigslist.
I have a LOT of parts I've collected over the years..
I believe they likely will be still in my barn when I die.

I'd like to buy a box van (after a winning lottery ticket) and drive all my crap around the country to all your houses and we could just trade in person. And have sandwiches.

Come to Pittsburgh and enjoy one of these monstrosities (if you have been to a chain they are good but nearly as good as the original).

It's a good plan, but I need you to sell Shannon on the idea, as I only recently got to move back inside from the barn due to the Louisiana fiasco.
Update: it was the iPad. I can access FB on my phone and on the PC at home; I just perused RD350 for sale, and there are a lot of bikes and parts out there that need my help! Dennis, you need to stay the #@&k off of FB, it's not safe for you.
