This is my Hot rod the day I put it away last fall. There is a build thread on the old forum, I have no intentions of doing another. But heres a little update. No major changes planned except for new carbs, I went from 34mm straight bore lectrons to 38mm High velocity lectrons. (See pic) The idea is that they will still work like 34s down low but should let it breath better up high like big carbs do. No other changes except for a top end freshen up with new OEM Yamaha TZ750 pistons, wiseco rings, and new wrist pins and bearings. The reason for new pistons already is because when I built the motor it was suggested to start with used pistons so that's what I did.

I'll second that, really tidy looking.
Those carbs look savage.

So the used Pistons help eliminate what?

I suppose if there are any problems during break in you would be ruining used pistons instead of rare and expensive hard to find new OEM pistons that are no longer available. However there are a couple of aftermarket companies that make them now but only in small batches from what I understand.

The new carbs are on and the bike runs ok. It was way too rich the way Lectron had the carbs set up initially so I put in the other metering rods that they supplied at the setting they suggested and it was better but still too rich for my liking. I have a third set of rods that I installed and it is closer my liking.

The metering rods are for idle up to about half throttle, from that point the power jet takes over. The adjustment on the rods affects the idle mixture the most and has less effect on anything else. There is a sweet spot for every set of rods that gives you the best mixture at idle and I don't know where that is on the set of rods I'm using right now. Lectron has a "fuel ratio" tool that is used for setting these up for the perfect idle mixture. I have that tool on order so I can get these set up properly and hopefully get the perfect idle mixture. So far the initial feeling with these rods even at the potential wrong setting is pretty impressive. I can't wait to get them dialed in the way they should be.

I was doing some work on the TZ the other day and since the lighting was just about perfect for pictures I decided to take a few and share them with you guys.
