So it's been awhile and I just picked up a project, I have a roller RD350 and then I picked up a motor that only has a good transmission. Then a buddy found an R5 that has good compression, but is missing the carbs. For $300 I couldn't say no.
Anyway my goal is to put this thing together and put it on the track so I can race lightweight, formula 4 or maybe it's 3. Anyway.
Someone check me here but I'm pretty sure I can direct swap the gears right into the R5 cases, along with the clutch and shifter. I can also directly bolt up a set of RD cylinders?
Are the cylinders available from that eBay seller any good? I understand I might as well buy three sets in hopes of getting a set with the same porting. On that note, do they come with the same porting that was on the original RD's?
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ah, great. I just took the heads off the R5 and they're stock bores. The RD motor is junk, I don't think the crank is much good and one of the cylinders had a cracked liner going from the intake port out to one of the transfer ports, probably why it was retired but who knows. It looked like it had been kept under a chicken coop.
So I'm going to get a set of the "new" cylinders. I remember using the banshee pistons in my old bike, I assume they should fit right in but I might send them out for a fit check at a local shop first.

im running the pistons that came with them. a lot has changed in the pat decade, there's lots of options for pistons now, specific for the rd. look up wossner, vertex, prox, and tkrj obes from yambits (in the uk but very affordable). also prox from economy cycle.
I ran the ones that came with them 'just to see' haven't hurt em yet. not an endorsement  though.  here, last page has a video and pics of the piston wash pattern.

Thanks Mark, that's very encouraging. As an aside, do the R5 and RD share the same rake and trail numbers? This R5 I have seems to have a little more rake but it could be the Honda wheels someone put on it. They're aluminum, and if they weigh less than the spoked ones I might try to keep them.

frames, geometry wise, are the same. minor differences but its like a reflector hole here, and lower pipe mount lug on frame rail that only applies if you're using rd stock pipes on an r5 frame. everything else swaps. swingarm, foot pegs, all other mount points the same.  .02
