ha. my ocd is friend and foe sometimes. i tend to "brain fuck things" so iv'e been re reading the rebuild thread from the air cooled rd site. hoping all goes smooth with the bottom end rebuild. Top end just got to Garret up in WA. So time to move this to haus of projects I suppose.

Doin my first rebuild. Disassembly went well.  Took my time and bagged and tagged everything.  Took lots of fotos too.  I got a Vito's crank and I see it has o rings instead of knock pins.  Is this right?

Parts came out real nice.  Top end is off to machinist for the works, bore to 2nd over,  mild porting and head o-ringed and squish correction.

So time to paint the engine covers. What's the best process? Mask, polish then mask and paint. Or mask, paint then polish?

Yep. Only the cases are gettin vapor blasted.

Took 2 sets of engine cases. 1 set of engine side covers and 1 set of barrels and heads. $275 and i'll have the top end by sat. to send out for new bore and pistons.

I'm ready to take my motor to the blaster. Have a few questions.

Do i need to mask bearing surfaces
Plug threaded holes
Is vapor blasting ok for parts that will be painted

Just did this last night. Penetrating oil, double nut, lots of patience and lots of heat worked for me. Used a MAPP gas torch. Having the motor in the bike also helps, allows for much more leverage than on a bench.
