I'm looking for a good pair of rear shocks(less than $950)for my 75' RD250B.
I want ones with straight-rate springs, which I can exchange for the correct springs,if needed;a set of rear shocks that're adjustable damping.
I called and spoke w/ Ikon(Roger)in Bedford,PA.and didn't appreciate his abrupt/'too busy' way of hurried speaking;I'll try someone else.
I have a little 81' Honda CB125S w/ the XL200R engine and it runs Hagons w/ their 'too stiff' springs;I installed a set of used/softer springs, and the Hagons are ok and work fine.
I want better than them.
Does Chris Livengood still rework RFY shocks? They are cheap to buy and surprisingly good for what they cost, but can be improved.

I see.
I heard he just lost his Mother,so I'll wait for a while.
I bought Hagon's for my RD and my GT. I love them. Got them from Wemoto and it was cheaper that way.

Do they have a USA office,so I can speak english live with them ?
bets me. Just fire off an email see what they say. I have them on 3 bikes, very happy with them. the t500, the grom and the kz. Just off the shelf units . I'm sure there's a comitted us distributor I just don't know who

Mark, do they have good damping characteristics on a lightweight bike for varied speed and terrain ?
i mean, i have no complaints. the grom is pretty lightweight

Automatic/variable damping built-in ?
just a reservoir shock. actually had it out on a 70+ mile ride his morning, all good

I think these will be good for my RD.
I still do RFY's occasionally, and I have way too many parts for the RFY's as well as a few sets just on my shelf.
However, after the pandemic the supply chain never recovered. The guy I made arrangements with to buy from stopped selling them. Shortly there after I go frustrated and started turning the work way. At some point I am going to list all those parts for sale for cents on the dollar and somebody will be able to build some good shocks if they know what they are doing.
I have designed and even made many of the parts for my own dual shock setup for vintage bikes. RD is where I'd start. I need to get my CNC lathe going, which would allow me to make the many round parts needed for a damper. This is really my vision of where I want to go with that stuff. A 100% USA made set of dampers, hopefully at a reasonable price but have some customizable options not available through like YSS.
We finished moving my mothers stuff and the estate is mostly settled at this point. So I am back to work in a reasonable capacity. I am lot less strained with travel and those types of things now.

Chris,do you have a set of RFY's to sell, which will work good on my RD250 ?
I've always liked the look of them.
I read that they have Lot's of(too much?)compression damping stock..
I don't think I do. We would need softer springs for that bike. I will look when I am in the shop in a bit.
Too much compression damping is not an issue they have. Too stiff a springs certainly is.

I understand.
I'm 200lbs,and I normally like using straight-rate(soft is better)shock springs, when I can get them;I'm able to gradually add preload w/o hitting the 'hard spot' usually experienced with dual-rate springs.
Chris, Can I purchase a certain pair of these RFY's and send them to you to be worked-on ?
Send me a PM with what you're looking for.

The YSS that Mark posted look very good, and I like their style.
I measured the shock towers/posts on my RD250 and they're 14mm O.D.
The chrome Repro shocks the seller installed are 325mm/12.75" eye-eye.
I would like to get a pair of them with a light enough set of springs to make it comfortable on the lowest preload setting.
I'll send you a PM.
I run the RE302 YSS on my RD. It's a non-rebuildable shock, but a bit cheaper than the rebuildable stuff YSS makes that fit. I like the shocks a lot.
Chris found some Worx Performance shocks which came off a 74' Ducati 750 which had a dry weight of 401lbs.,although I'm not sure if the springs are light enough, plus they haven't been rebuilt.
Might be ok.
I purchased these used Works Performance 'Tracker' rear shocks.
I don't think there are any kits available, but I'll keep my eyes open for parts.
I'm sure these are much better than RFY's.
