I spent part of the morning trolling other sites looking for more R5 info and came across this thread...

But specifically I am suspect on this particular response.. don't really think I ever heard this claim before.

yeah that 'us market only' is bullshit.  However, they DID have 2t oil at pumps at some gas stations in the UK in the 70's and 80s, i know for a fact.

Do you mean 2t oil in cans.. or a 2t oil pump?
I can't think they actually had a fuel pump that dispensed premix.

I'm picturing drunk 2t riders in the 70's grabbing the wrong pump handle and seizing motors a bit later..🤪

I want 2t oil in the pump at the gas station *whines*

That's wild never heard of the premix pump.

I can confirm that I used to buy pre-mix at the petrol station from the pump.  That was when two strokes were cheap transportation in the UK and Europe with little or no sporting aspirations.  Cheap and cheerful ( but smelly) get a two stroke and if you could afford luxury or performance, you bought a shiny 4 stroke.

They disappeared as the economy improved and less and less people used bikes for basic transportation and no one wanted to smell of two stroke smoke, so the market disappeared along with Francis Barnett, James Arial Arrow/leader, and so on.

Bikes like the early YDS Yamahas and later the Super Six Suzuki (x6 or hustler) were a whole different market  and came at a time when the Japanese companies were pouring a lot of money into GP racing with 50,125, 250, 350 and hugely powerful 50-60hp 500cc bikes. Things definitely changed since then.

Pretty much all do around here, and yes is not cheap.

Most of the petrol in India was premix through most of the '90s. Diesel and premix. Very seldom saw a straight petrol auto. The  last I was there in 2017, there were no premix pumps at all.

yes, we had portable 2 stroke pumps at every garage over here at one time. you'd put a couple of squirts in and your fuel, then go to pay for it. they always asked 'how many shots'? also, there was always a drum of distilled water and a redex dispenser on every forecourt. happy days  :Clown:
cheers, gil.

Never knew Lowes carried this.
