Aftermarket swingarms for the RD's

Hi all,
I thought it would be nice to start a thread about aftermarket swingarms for the Yamaha DS7/R5/RD's.
Here a few arms I own. It would be nice if you add info of swingarms you have or know of.
First I will show you a period, german made swingarm. Out of steel and made for the 1A2/1A3 range. Company is called K+J and is still in existence and still make them by inquiry. Weights in at 4kg.
The one on the right side




The one in the middle in the first of the above pictures is a Motolanna superlite alloy one made in Thailand. Not really for a RD but easy to adapt. Weight in at 2,95kg



Here installed in a 1976 RD250 race bike of a friend of mine



The black one in the first pic above is from Webike in Japan. Made by the same company who do the Motolanna ones. Alloy also. Weight in at 2,96kg.


Here a UK made JMC alloy swingarm for an european RD/E-F and US spec Daytona one. Massive profiles with excenter. But weights only 3,2kg inclusive the rear axle.



German period made swingarm by Fischer. Normally Fischer made frame kits for japanese 4cylinder engines end of the 70tees till mid/end 80tees and swingarms for stock 4cylinder framed japanese bikes. They did only a bit more of a handfull for the RD range. Very heavy at 6,6kg. Definately one more for the look than function.

after purchasing my Webike and Motolanna swingarms last year I digged a bit deeper. I found out that a few more companies sell these swingarms. After browsing around in the end I dragged down the manufacturer of these arms. It is a small racing team(2 or 3 guys) who build them. Sadly I lost the records of them after a computer crash I had this summer. And even after searching around now I didn't find them anymore. They have a website.

Now I can tell people that my swingarm came out of a small Thai race shop! They do beautiful work; I hope it pays for their racing.

Another period made steel swingarm made in Germany. From a company called Hillmer. Was one of the most used aftermarket swingarm back in the day.


Here an english made steel swingarm. No clue about the brand.


Now a period Spondon swingarm. Built for TD3/TR3 and TZ/A-B. Added shock mounts for use on a RD frame. The racers frame rails and shock mounts are around 1cm narrower so the genuine Spondon shock mounts do not line up.

Converted RD350 YPVS swingarm for use in an aircooled RD. A friend of mine do these mod.


Not mine. UK made Metmachex alloy arm. This one is for the european 2R8/2R9 and US Daytona spec bikes. A few years back they made arms for the older aircooled range as well. But now, due to an owner change of the company the do only this one. If someone wants one for the older RD's he have to send them a sample.

I run a Radian swingarm. They're direct fit for RD (at least my 75 frame) and XS. They are box steel and a little longer.

  Okay, basic question. Are US Daytona RD400F swingarms different than a standard RD?
 Jeeeez if that Metachex swinger ain't awesome. But I also liked the middle one above w the nice axle adjusters..sadly it seems there ling gone☹️

As nother quick question... I have boxes of old RZ parts I know the fork tubes are interchangeable at 35 what about the rear swing arm I don't really care if it's steel or not if it's " free". Lol I easily can adapt it for twin shocks.

I'm not up to date on the specific differences from the Daytona "F" vs 76-78 RDs

RZ swingarm will need the pivot tube narrowed about 1/4" to fit in a 350 or 400 frame. I assume the Daytona will need the same.

Yes, the Daytona is the same frame as European E/F models and they have the same pivot width like the former aircooled RD models.

'76-78 1A1 and '79 2V0 swingarms are identical and interchangeable with the exception of brake stay bar. The 76-78 has a lug welded to the bottom of the arm while the Daytona has an integrated triangular brace welded to the top.
same length, same pivot width.

I do not have a RD to measure, but this looks like it could work..?
Genuine Yamaha aluminum swingarm made for dual shocks. A rear wheel/brake set up from a YZF600 thundercat fits right in. The other arm is from a Yamaha TRX850 the wheel is in....too wide at pivot for RD stuff.
