My 70 R5 has been very tried and true over the past 7 years. Long story w this bike, but it is for some reason one of my favorites.

I've never cracked into the top end, somebody has, not sure who, but has always run since i got it fired up back in 2015. was supposed to be a joint project with my ex wife. It languished for a year, then I moved on but the bike stayed w me.

Was intended to be a sort of ratty survivor but things change.  :metal: :toot:

original tank. it was quite wrinkly with small dents all over it, paint faded,  and the cap flange wasnt perfectly square so it would ocassionally seep fuel if it was filled too much out of the cap.

Over the years its gotten new forks (had 2" over ones... that didnt match.. lol) , seat, RH sidecover, clutch, dyna ign, shocks. all service stuff you would expect, and then a recovered seat for a few yrs. Tim sent me a link to an NOS (albeit not -perfect- ) tank for it, never mounted.

So i pulled the trigger and ii feel it def paid off. def gives new life to the bike visually.

as it arrived. I knew about the scratch but said f-it. (its been touched up with a matching perm marker)

treated it to a new petcock from economy and some new badges and fresh lines and filters:

:whoop:

knowing my luck it will probably fall over in the shop in the next week.  Until then, i will just enjoy it.   :haw:

oh, it was nos, it never had liquid in it, was still overspray white in the petcock screw holes..

Here's what i think happened:
there was a slight flaw in the lower stripe that i fixed. (had bled a bit when originally painted i masked it off, wet sanded it and cant even see it now) it was probably ordered, rejected, then sat on a shelf for years when the scratch occurred.

what im shocked at is how well the rest of the purple on the bike held up (head light etc) compared to the tank. IF you noticed the HL ear looking a bit hazy.. in that pic.. theres wax on it i hadnt wiped off yet.  :vroom:

bee-you-tea-full.
Reminds me of the CS5 200 I bought for my ex wife many years ago.

Must be something about purple bikes and ex wives..
