The Geneva green RD400 looks awesome. Not the "best" color green imo, but it sure looks cool! I had a shot at buying obe backj when the RD was still on the surgery table. Guy sold it for $4k. Oops, missed out.

That RD400C raises some questions. It looks like it could be a Euro or Oceania model with the wire wheels and larger tank, however the VIN is something I've not seen before and doesn't jive with a bike from one of those regions (or the US/CAN for that matter). 1A1-200908

The "2" series was not used by Yamaha for 1A1 models. And the graphics are not '76. The cylinders and heads are painted all black, and the seat is overstuffed and obviously not stock.

The RD200 is actually a 1975 RD200B not a '74

I was thinking about going out there again this year to check it out, but I'm still on the fence. It's a pretty cool event to see in person. And a must if you're going to buy anything. I can tell you that none of the bikes look like they do in the photos when you see them in person. Most look much worse than the pics when viewed up close, but there are a few exceptions and some are actually nicer than they appear in the listings.

If you plan on attending I would advise ear plugs and limiting the number of days you plan on sitting in the auction hall. It's VERY loud and sitting there listening to an auctioneer going "beh-bedda-bedda-badee, beh-bedda-bedda-badee" for 8 hours will drive you nuts. After leaving the building at the end of the day you will still hear that echoing in your head the rest of the night!

I went through a lot of the cars and bikes on the Mecum site. It's really disappointing how little usable information they include on most vehicles.

Yep, that's why you really need to be there to inspect, and make an informed purchase. Otherwise you may get a big surprise when the shipper drops it off!

i don't see a 73-75 rd350 in the list. maybe people are holding on to them.

Some decent deals in the morning on Thursday, but in the afternoon the prices shot up. 3 different H2s each went for $27.5K+, a green 74 H2 went for $28.6K, the 81 350LC hammered for $8.8K, and a 95 TZR250SPR sold for $17.6K. The RD60 sold for $6.6K! A Daytona sold for $8.8K, the red 76 RD400 with wire wheels went for $9K, and the 78 RD400E sold for $10,120.

we were at Mecum and I may be mistaken but recall a bike shop mechanic in CA. for his employer did this 500 and a couple other 750's in the auction. He told us his charge was to get them as nice shined up riders and did not get defensive that the paint and many other details were not correct. i did not point out the bitsa issues but was standing there when an "expert" was pointing out stuff. 8gs seemed pretty fair for this decent rider, add the auction fee and transport home costs and 10g's was likely the buyers costs.
