actually, we are i'd think. we are a bunch of middle aged men with disposable income that see the value in a small cc 'replica' of sorts race bike.
I just think they should have done better chassis wise.  :twocents:

Just outta curiosity if you really had to have this and don't like the weight could you lighten it up with a motor swap?...say a KX500 motor? :clint:

I guess I figure one reason where it can weigh a bit more is all the extra electronics to sort out epa compliant fuel delivery on a modern four stroke.

oxford

How much, I don't know but I would think an aftermarket exhaust and rear fender eliminator would drop some decent weight.

RDryan

oh that would have to be at least 35 pounds lighter with those mods...

m in sc

stuff that motor in an nsr frame.

I agree. Me and my riding mates have been pining for small displacement multi-cylinder motors for years. We are all in that demographic. The generic 4-stroke twin cylinder motor leaves us cold. Bring back the 400 arms race! I'm personally waiting for Yamaha to launch a 400/450 three cylinder - baby sibling of the FZ09/XSR.

oooh a 400 triple would be sweet indeed.  :olaf:

There was a story about it in the weekly Cycle World Sunday Best email

Does anyone have some solid numbers for what a 90s 400 supersport weight was?  I tried using the google machine and saw some conflicting numbers.

I got a little curious since weight was mentioned so much in this thread.

m in sc

gsxr400 is between 350-365

fzr400 is in the same 350-360 ballpark.

I'm guessing those are dry weights?  I see posted wet weight of the fzr right around what the wet weight of the RR is.

Here's the official weight from my 1989 owners manual:

I went through my archives and pulled this out.
Thought it could be of some interest here.

The 250's were restricted by Japanese government to 45 at the crank up to 92...in 93 they were limited to 40
And speed limited to 180 kilometers per hour.

Although when unrestricted they will easily put 60hp at the rear wheel (RGV-NSR) The 3MA is very difficult to tune.
