y boot, box 3d stuff

so I procured a nice 3d printer for myself, same model we use at work. im playing w materials but -may- produce a few things to sell, rd specific. this is the large y boot. & the battery box for rds and such that utilize an alarm battery. previously I was using the ones at work for personal stuff, but I don't feel right selling from works equipment. so, ill get these dialed in. the battery boxes are good to go as is, im going to ask 50 usd + shipping conus only. you need to use the stilock battery strap or similar to hold lid down. more to follow

tpu so far. I tested it w 95, have some 90 coming. I also printed a fairly ridiculous velocity stack as just a test.

I actually had that at deals gap 1 year, when I stayed at the hotel.  I have zero shame. had my 'cat mom' mug as well, every morning, room 2.  :afro:

regardless, im going to play w the y boot a bit.  id like to also print up some fuel proof float bowls. ppk or peek would be good but not sure i can run it.

I've had decent enough luck with Tpu parts on the motorcycles but I don't entirely trust the intakes yet. I've made them for people but I always do it with the use at your own risk. The glass point is quite low with tpu. One hot day and you're sucking your intakes in. Or at least that's my worry.

yeah im not going to make intakes. runners from the air filter to bellmouth is one thing. from the carb to the motor is another. the peek or pp setup would be fine as a reed box, etc,  but id use a rubber joint still

I've had really good luck with ASA. It's great for modification later too. It grinds and drills well.

Don't get into gridfinity if you haven't already. My toolbox drawers look great but it's a deep dark hole.

im not, i don't have time/desire for that stuff TBH. Ive been using printers for over a decade at work so that novelty has pretty much worn off.  I've made some organization bits here and there but, not that into it.

I havent played with asa much as i havent had to. thats been the one limitation to printing at work, is the requirements there didnt lend themselves to too much material exploration.

I have done a lot of SLA for wind tunnel stuff. Stratasys machines for that.

Gridfinity is fun, but it can really suck up print time. FDM is more than fine. I don't really feel like doing sla at home. On an industrial scale it's much more manageable.

yeah all the stuff we do at work is purely mechanical, internal use,  not aero stuff, nothing cosmetic, etc. mostly concept prototyping, but some items that need to be sacrificial if something goes terribly wrong as well get used. And, I also print up some air knives and blower nozzles as its much, much more cost effective than the alternatives.

at my last job we had an sla machine from 3d systems (the world headquarters are actually in my town, i live 2 miles away from them). it was a total pain in the ass to deal with comparatively to an fdm setup.. but it def gave a superior finish, and i can see the appeal for certain markets.
