Turning Wrenches / R5 Vape install
June 03, 2023, 07:05:47 PM
Is there anything specific on a R5 Vape install vs the RD install?
What mods to the wiring harness will be needed?
Thanks.

Turning Wrenches / R5 fork work
June 01, 2023, 02:55:26 PM
 :confusing2:
So the front suspension on this gift R5 is pretty wiped out.  Hit the bakes and it damn near bottoms out just pushing it.
Feels like the steer stem bearings are loose or worn out.
What recommendations do you all have to upgrade the existing tubes? I intend to keep and rebuild them.

This could go into the sales section but I thought it may be more of a interesting  conversation here.
Either way here is a bike that the seller wants 30k for. I'll say it is unique.

General Chatter / Tiddlers ruled the road Saturday!

It was perfect weather and the ride had a wonderful smorgasbord of little bikes.
Though I personally was piloting a 75 Honda CB125S there were tons of sweet, cool 2 smokers afoot!.
It was a great day.

General Chatter / First part pulled
April 26, 2023, 07:57:55 AM
So the adjuster left and he said I could start clean up.
Here's the very first part I pulled out of the fire wreckage.
This was a perfect R5 oem paint tank.
The fire melted the fuel tap and badges clean off.

Show Off / The joy of rust removal.
April 14, 2023, 08:26:49 AM
Love Evaporust. Stuff just works so good.
These shocks off a LT3 were pretty dang rusty. So I dumped the bodies in a bucket of EVAPORUST at left them in overnight.
They came out perfect.

But when I was in Lowes I saw this stuff called Goof Off Rustaid.
$11 bucks for a jug. I threw the springs in there for a night too.
The stuff did remove all of the rust but it did leave a grey film that a few minutes of scubbing in my parts washer cleaned off. I think it is not safe on paint, decals or rubber though.
Not as caustic as muratic but definitely more than Evaporust.

Turning Wrenches / RD250 vs RD350
April 11, 2023, 09:59:18 AM
Is the RD250 motor identical to the RD350 except or bore size?
Can a RD 250 cyber bored out to accept 350 pistons.
I've never messed with them but have that 250 I want to build the motor on.

Can we get a good list of service providers currently offering cylinder service and other associated work? With possible review commentary.
Seems lately it's unclear what options are out there.

Events / August vintage Oklahoma ride
April 09, 2023, 12:38:39 PM
Hey folks! Heads up!

I am putting together a vintage motorcycle ride that will be held in August.
This would be a ride geared mainly towards vintage bikes though I'm not going to exclude motorcycles that would not fall in that category. For those wanting to come along for the ride here are some details:
So it will be conducted in Rogers County Oklahoma. It will be almost 100% on back country roads. Very little highway except to possibly cross over or get to another road. Lots of back country hills, lots of twisty turns. Oklahoma being the way it is where the roads are laid out in a grid pattern with crossroads every mile or so.. I've tried to choose as many roads that are not that fashion. So there will be some long stretches of rolling hills and flat stuff too. There will be a few 4 way stops at intersections as well. Pretty much a smorgasbord of varying roads and conditions. There will be no dirt or gravel sections though some small parts where the county has done minor road repairs. I've ridden the route extensively and will give everyone a heads up where those areas are.
So the travels will not exceed more than 50-55 mph speeds for any length of time. Average cruising speeds will be around 35-45 mph. The distance will be approximately 130 miles all told.
Therefore lightweight bikes that are small 100 - 50 CC's would probably not be great riding choices as I expect bigger bikes will likely be represented. Even so I won't tell anyone they aren't invited but riders will have to make that decision for themselves.
I have all the details pretty much ironed out.  I do have the route already mapped out.
I will share those details at a later date once I get things a little bit more set.
We will have a few stops for fuel, water and a quick rest. I have a great little restaurant that will be ready for all who join in can have lunch.
I wanted to put together something just for my area for a pretty laid back ride up here. Of course anybody will be invited.
Like I said August 19th is the date as that would be a proper time frame to do this for 2023 that way where I'm not interfering with or getting in the middle of anybody else's established local rides.
So let me know what you think. Please give me a holler or comment on this post.
  Thanks.. Scott.

General Chatter / Not a bad little list.
March 04, 2023, 08:56:37 AM
Stolen off the interwebs....

Tips for Riding....
1. Slow down a little. That S curve is sharper than you think!
2. Just because your bike can go 100 mph between two stoplights doesn't mean you should do it.
3. Maintenance is that un-fun thing you do to keep from walking home!
4. When in doubt, always take a jacket. When not in doubt, still take the jacket.
5. It always seems farther back home than it was to your destination. Don't ride so far that it stops being fun!
6. Ride safe! No one wants to attend your funeral and talk about how much you loved bikes. They want to go riding with you and talk about what a great time you had.
7. Stop for gas even if you don't need it. You may wish you had later.
8. Chrome won't get you laid, unless you're already good looking.
9. WAVE!!!! Even if the rider is on a scooter or a different brand. They just might be saving for their "Dream" motorcycle.
10. Don't ride beyond your skill level trying to keep up with the rider in front of you.
11. Keep your passenger feeling safe. They're riding with you because they trust you. Don't scare them & ruin motorcycling for them.
12. Buy quality rain gear. Being wet when it's warm is tolerable. Being wet when it's cold is miserable.
13. Riding 500 miles a day on the interstate is do-able. Riding 500 miles a day in the mountains is impossible. Allow yourself time to "see the sights".
14. The larger the group, the longer it takes to get there.
15. The "ride" is about the Journey, not the destination.
16. Remember to have fun.
Life, and riding, is not a contest. You can't win them all.
