Pretty rare bike. :bacon:  Putt it over to your local bike night and you'll be guaranteed to be the only one there on one.
Cool vintage AMA sticker too!

Yesterday I took out the POS for a longer test/shakedown ride. It ran flawlessly. Ended up doing 56 miles through the beach towns and along the coast on PCH from Seal Beach down to Newport and Corona del Mar. At one point I looked down at the speedo and was shocked to see I was doing 70mph. The new front sprocket made it a new bike!

And the highlight of the day was that during the ride I was finally able to finish my recently topped-off fuel tank and go on reserve, which I was trying to do so I could gauge mileage before having to switch over and also get MPG. After gassing up I ran the numbers...
Miles from full to RES: 146 mi
MPG: 78.45 MPG :whoop: Wow, I can't believe the mileage on this thing! I guess there's actually one thing that the POS can do well.

And with each ride it's more clear that the POS is begging for more street-oriented tires. So those are coming soon.

Race Discussions / Re: Moto3 class change - 2028

In a little over 20 years they've succeeded in ruining all 3 classes in GP. For good measure they even did Moto3 twice. >:(
And with Liberty now in charge I'm predicting we haven't seen the end of the bad decisions.

Finally found some time to work on the POS again after it's poor behavior on the last ride attempt.
Pulled the carb and gave it an inspection but didn't find anything that could have caused the poor running issue. I guess it will remain a mystery. (The POS is a mysterious animal.)  Cleaned the jets, float valve, passages and bowl with carb cleaner and air. Reassembled and bolted it back up.
Also gave the fuel screw a tweak (+0.25) to 3.25 turns out in an attempt to alleviate a light stumble when whacking the throttle from idle.

Installed the new chain roller and inner bushing. The old chain roller was MIA and the chain had been running on the bushing.

Runs great again! :whoop:  So I took it out for a short ride (10 miles). :vroom:  It was a great day for it, it hit 80F at the beach today!
The 1-tooth larger front sprocket made a world of difference! It's quicker because you don't have to constantly shift, and there's no need to take off in 2nd since 1st gear is usable again. And top speed is better. Cruises effortlessly at 50mph instead of straining like it did previously.

Looking forward to taking it out tomorrow for a longer ride.

Race Discussions / Moto3 class change - 2028
October 18, 2025, 01:26:00 AM
Starting in 2028 Moto3 will change from a 250cc prototype class to a spec class using 700cc Yamaha twin CP2 engines derived from the R7. Not a move I'm in favor of.

So the new classes will be:
Moto3: Yamaha 700cc twin
Moto2: Triumph 765cc triple
MotoGP: prototype 850cc 4-cylinder

General Chatter / Re: Flaky eBay buyers
October 16, 2025, 12:37:20 PM
When my buyer (in India) requested to cancel I sent him a message confirming the cancellation and suggested that he should not have placed a bid if the shipping cost was too expensive. He replied that the shipping cost was not visible when he placed his bid. I find that extremely hard to believe. His explanation still doesn't make sense, because why would you bid on something that you have no idea how much it costs?
:bs:
In any case, that item and it's matching listing are now US domestic only.

Impressive Warren! Never seen clutch friction plates getting rebuilt. That's some nice work! That engine will be better than new.

Quote from: SoCal250 on October 11, 2025, 12:50:02 PMHow long ago did you work with Boyko? How was your experience with him?
I'm in the central valley, I'll need to get more photos as I piece things back together.
Boyko did my topend about a year ago, he was great, sent me lots of photos as he moved along with everything. When he got to my cylinders he did everything quickly, sent them out, and got lucky with usps and got it the next day. His porting is more of a "blueprint" porting, I would definitely send more stuff when I get the chance.
Good to know. Thanks for the feedback on Ted. He's well known and has been around for a long time, but in the last few years I heard some somewhat negative comments about him from a long-time customer and was recommended to go elsewhere. I'm kind of thinking it may have just been one bad experience or a misunderstanding and not the current actual situation or general consensus.
I have a set of cylinders that I've been sitting on that I was planning to take to him since he's sort of local for boring and possible mild porting. As an alternative I was looking into Q&E over in Anaheim.
Curious...how did you find Ted and end up using him since you're so far away from OC?

Quote from: Andrew S on October 13, 2025, 10:15:24 PMSoCal250, I don't know the difference between a 76-78 kicker and the 79-80, so I assumed this kicker was the 1A1 version?
You have a 2V0 kicker.  The 76-78 arm is straight, while the '79 is more angled and provides a little more clearance for pegs (and rearsets).
