Cool! Low miles too. Interesting, pretty low-revving for a 2-stroke

I was clueless on the low redline myself until I saw the tach the first time.
Not sure if the TM400 Cyclone had the same limit...but it should last forever with the lack of stress at that level.
The TS was the trail/street version of the TM...the TM has a history that sounds more brutal to its riders than the first H2's
Should prove to be entertaining on the road....

Yes, the TM's were brutes! Kinda initiated the "scoot up on the tank" riding style.

Planning on what might fit for street use....
It won't see dirt while I own it.

"Coincidentally" this came up on my YouTube feed. Not sure if anything on the internet is coincidental these days.

It is somewhat critical of the TM400. For 2-stroke guys that can be a challenge rather than a deterrent. "It does what?". "I gotta try one!". The distance between legendary and notorious is sometimes rather small.

I was hoping you were going to do a street bike when I saw this. I have a growing appreciation for Supermotos. Some of the builds I've seen retain the dirt bike front brake. That's the first feature I would change. I've been looking for a 250cc+ 2-stroke Enduro with that in mind. Yamaha IT would be perfect but they aren't easy to find. Looking forward to seeing this built.

Too much power for the frame...
I thought that was a good thing  :olaf:

I might think to adapt a more modern disc front end?

I had a friend did a SM conversion on a IT465, and the tiny front brake was def the weak point.

Basically a supermoto...but very old skool.
I have a set of Dunlop alpha 13's 110-70, and 150-60-17's I'm going to use.
No disc brake... I thought about it momentarily, but I want to keep the bike as Stone Age simple as possible. Once I put a disc on, I'll want better forks...then an aluminum swing arm and a rear disc, then more and more changes and the bike will lose its identity.
I did drill out the drums and brake plates for some cooling and I will groove the shoes.
It will be the slowest bike I own, basically an experiment to try and find fun with less expectations that I have for all my other bikes.

They are a tight fit, but I think there will be at least 1/16 in clearance on the swingarm, and maybe that much on chain side with tires.

Time to strip it down to every last nut and bolt....

Thanks guys.
I would love to keep the pipe, but the chrome cover is beyond a point to restore, and a replacement could take years to find. Also, I plan on using a TM400 cylinder to up the HP, along with a 36 Mikuni, and will need a Jemco pipe to get the right HP curve to match.
Going to the Gilmore museum today for a bike ride and swap meet. Hoping to find some TM400 engine bits. The VJ23 will get some winter cobwebs blown out.

TS400-VJ23....
Polar opposite's as far as two stroke tech is concerned in almost every aspect.
Hopefully still just as fun.
