Mine would be 30 degrees different at times. After fresh pistons they stay about 15 with each other. Maybe check carb sync and timing if you have points or Dyna ignition.

A steering damper, cranked up, does wonders to get your confidence up that your bike will never spook you again.

It seems the stock RZ carbs are one of a kind. I never found where you could get a 375 needle jet. They are a shorter length than a RD carb jet. Also the pilot jets are shorter length than other Mikuni pilot jets but you can find them.

The service manual lists the starter jet as a #70 so I would imagine that hole is equivalent to a #70 jet.
#5
Does it die out even with the choke on? Do you have the washers on that fit under the main jet? Is that a tight fit?

Here's what Yambits sent for a RD400 countershaft ($20) and clutch shaft ($33) bearings.
#7
The bearing numbers are listed in the specs in the back of the service manual.

Looks like 10% for items from UK plus they add a $4.50 disbursement fee??

I finally settled on a 1978 IT175 valve for my RZ. It has a large outlet and the original 1 into 2 hose setup can be used but you can't turn it on/off with gloves on.

General Chatter / Re: Flaky eBay buyers

I just had one that bid at the last second and won the auction. Never heard anything again from them, sent an invoice, Ebay contacted them, had to wait 4 days and then offered the item to the next highest bidder. I don't see any way to give them negative feedback but explained what they did in positive feedback. Their address was CA.

Turning Wrenches / Re: Oxygenated fuel, oh my!

This is the stuff I bought. Next ride will be 50/50 with 91 non ethanol pump gas.  https://vpracingfuels.com/products/vp-t2-plus-fuel

Turning Wrenches / Oxygenated fuel, oh my!

I normally buy a jug of VP110 to mix with non-ethanol pump gas for my modified bike. Went to the local bike shop and they didn't have any more but they had VP2+. The label says for 2 strokes and comes with oil mixed at 40:1, 105 octane, 5.9% oxygen enriched. I thought let's try this stuff straight up with a little Yamalube 2R to get the ratio at 25:1. I kick it, with the chokes on, and it starts right up and then stalls. Odd, but it has done that before, it floods. Take the chokes off, crack the throttle open, kick, vrooom, it's ready to ride. Off I go and notice it is running as smooth as can be. Get to the back roads and start to give it some juice, oh yeah, seems like more power. It never skipped a beat on a 25 mile ride and the cylinder head temps were lower than most of what I see, 285f max. On the way back I wacked it through the lower gears a few times and it does have more punch. It wants to go to 10K but I keep it at 9.5. After hitting that turkey, I got a little wimpy about the back road through the woods high speed stuff. The rest of the jug will be mixed 50:50 with pump gas with oil at 25:1. I like this bike (RD400) better than my RZ because it is more stable, corners better, stops way better, and will probably walk away from the RZ in a straight line. Thanks to John Ritter for working my cylinders, heads, and reeds, this thing runs perfect.

Quote from: 2steve on September 30, 2025, 10:07:19 AMThis is not a Yambits order?

No, just shipping an item from there to here. I'd imagine Yambits orders are being hit with tariffs according to what the invoice was you paid.

Final outcome: It took 2 weeks for my FedEx shipment from UK to arrive. It was not something I bought or paid any money for. "You owe us $5.90 in tariffs"  :dislike:

It looks like it is under oiling to me too, and you can adjust that with the cable adjuster in your picture but man you have to replace that cable. It looks like someone squeezed a nut on the end of it and it has to swing by that pin at full throttle.
